Offline | Cheers Barry, and yup definately longing for spoiler and lowering. Hopefully this ordeal doesn't break the bank, so that I can buy these mods! Keep in touch I bought the car last year and took out an independent warranty package with the private dealer (i.e non franchised mini dealer). Luckily I took 2 years instead of 1! However, this doesn't seem to happen to all Minis. My friend has a 51 plate Mini One with 60,000 on the clock and he was never told that the car had gone through gearbox faults when he bought it. If you notice any strange noises, get the car checked out! Yes hopefully everything turns out ok, the fact you have warranty remaining helps this! magic car it is yes ![]() |

| MINI2 Regular | I suppose you're right, and forums like these do highlight the ideas of things going wrong, no strange noises from gear box though yet anyway, but ill keep listening in case, thanks anyway, fingers crossed i get no problems!! As you said it cant happen to all MINIs of this age!! |

Offline | Good news Got the car back today from the Mini garage. There was a new gearbox and clutch fitted in which is unsurprisingly tight at the moment. There was a large hole in the gearbox that knackered, and the clutch was on its last legs! Hopefully a wee run-in will sort it out. The plus side now is that there are no 'grinding' noises as such ![]() Cheers |

Offline | Thought I'd be a smart ass and try and get some good pictures...turns out they didn't end up as I hoped although I still like them ![]() They were all from the same position though as I was using a pillar on my fence as a tripod ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Offline | As I've said a couple of times Ryan I think your car looks awesome - being a couple months older I know exactly how hard it is to get money to blow on the car!! Like a few others have said you need the spoiler next, if you can afford it the JCW one would look amazing and completely finish the look off - although it's bloody expensive it'd be so worth it!! If you can't stretch to that get an S Spoiler, that'd look great ![]() ![]() |

Offline | Also just realised your gearbox went mate, that sucks!! Sorry to hear about it but glad it is fixed now. Mine went just a couple hundred miles over 40,000 so yours went early - I didn't take out the extended TLC but I'm considering it after the whole ordeal. NO!! Because 'the brunt of it' will set you back £2800 as I almost found out - but thankfully it went only 11 days out of warranty so under BMW's "good will" thingy I only had to pay 50% labour which worked out £400ish. And even selling the car it's probs worth £7,500 in it's current state I'm guessing Luke? So say it all went the £2,800 to repair would bring value down to £4,800 - but then you have to bear in mind no one will pay that when there's so much work needed - so expect about £4,000 (if you're lucky) for your car - plus they've released an extended TLC now I think, so maybe consider that - I know I am ![]() ![]() |

| heavy foot = light wallet | bad luck on the gear box mate, lucky you took the warrenty! I got an 06 one and it has had a gearbox problem after 18000 miles!?! the car is bags of fun so cant complain!!! As i have previously said, get it lowered first! lowering springs are cheap and coilovers with 17s look awesome! Anywho glad your covered for the gearbox! |

Offline | Cheers for comments! Lowering Springs fitted today plus a Nice JCW manifold cover and some Lohen subtle logos. Quite happy, although the Lowering springs don't make the car 'that much' lower. Although they are Eibach 30mm's, and I've heard they take a while to fully settle? I will post pics soon, it's snowing again up here! ![]() |

Offline | They take a while to settle indeed. I have the eibech uptp 40mm springs and they have dropped the car about 43mm. On 18's the ride is a bit harder but i think better on good roads and it looks more aggresive but I wanted it that way lol. You wont regret it!! I will see if i can find some before and after photos of my car for you to see the difference ![]() |

Offline | I must say though the springs have dropped a fair bit more than I expected. 42mm on upto 40mm springs is crazy. I have no problems with speed bumps, i just take them slow and put the music up louder to drown out the scrapes which there is alot of on the speed bumps near me. I was expecting that though. What i wasnt expecting what happened the other day lol, i went down a dip in the road about 50mph and i scraped off the ground, and then a few nights ago i was at a junction and the road was fairly steep and i scraped lol It is only the lip and it looks well and causes no problems. They wont take long to settle btw, about two weeks for the main drop then a few mm more over the next few, depends on how much you drive ![]() btw, i love the brakes on your car!!!! ![]() |
