United-Kingdom Mini One Superchip

Just bought a 04 plate Mini One which has been made to look like a cooper, ie seats, steering wheel, suspension, rear spoiler and new 17" alloys

Under the bonnet there is a K&N air filter

I was wondering if there is any way to tell if my Mini has been chipped in any way or upgraded performance?

Perhaps you could take it to a rolling road? If it's chipped, it'll be putting out about 120-125 bhp - or thereabouts? If it's standard, it'll be about 90bhp.

I know rolling roads cost money, but I can't think of any free way to be absolutely certain.

All the best,
Andrew.

About the only free method is to find a piece of straight and safe private road, and time the 0-60mph... although there are lots of variables in this....

The only good method as Andrew said is to head to a rolling road for a power run!!

Hi Andrew

Where abouts are you located?

We have a Dyno in our workshop, which is the best way to assess the power output of your Mini.

When driving, the standard Mini one tends to tail off at 4000rpm, where as when re-mapped they do the opposite, and pull strongly past 4000rpm to redline.

infact, for all you Mini one owners with the bluefin.

What sort of a difference has it made?? Have any of you got it dyno'd?? What sort of HP are you pushing out now?

And when you all got the bluefin did you upgrade any other parts to go with it?

i do want to get it but not yet, im just looking for information from people who have got it done with ONE's.

Thanks

You can also tell if its been chipped by the sound of the car under acceleration if you have an induction kit rather than just a pannel filter in the airbox.

As with what has previously been said the One backs off at 4000rpm against a chipped One will continue to pull right till the red line.

First of all make sure you have a clear straight road, and the window down, rolling at 10mph keep it in 2nd gear and put your foot flat to the floor, you will hear the induction roar as per usual with an induction kit, but lissen very carefully as the revs hit 4000rpm because if the car has been chipped the induction roar will get louder where as if it hasnt the induction roar will near enough go silent and you will just hear the engine revving.

So if the induction roar disapears then its got a standard map on it, the noise disapears as the throttle closes off and restricts the air going into the engine, but if the induction noise continues and gets progressively louder then thats where the throttle remains fully open to allow as much air in as possible which would indicate the car has been chipped.
