Offline | I average 300 miles on a tank. That's mainly short journeys though. It improves greatly on a run but gets worse with just town driving. I guess I do have an itchy right foot though. I wish I could get the book MPG but at the end of the day it's an all round cheaper car to run than previous motors but still as much, if not more fun The one thing I wonder is that with the One a virtual 'chipped down' version of the Cooper, it might make you drive it a little harder than if it had the few more horses. Like it seems as if it isn't running at optimum efficiency. Possibly why there doesn't seem to be much 'real world' difference in MPG between Coopers and Ones? Just a thought. Offline | No appologies necessary gas mark 1. Looks like your getting about 35MPG ish as well by the looks. I generaly get about 300 miles and require about 44 litres to fill up, after 2/3rds motorway and 1/3 A roads mix with gentle right foot. Andy - you know what, I can't help thinking the same thing myself. The exhaust pipe on mine is always sooty inside, indicating slighty rich running. When examining either my fathers Ford focus or brothers Mondeo tail pipes they are completely spottless inside (call me sad if you like..!), not the slightest bit or soot/dirt - it's amazing how clean/lean burning the modern Ford engines are, which explains why they get almost the same economy as my little Mini ONE.... Cheers everyone... |

Offline | We're consistently getting 34 mpg from our ONE. Three different drivers, short journeys, lots of Welsh hills and valleys, some motorway journeys. ANT ANTBLACKMINIONEANDBRGMiniCooper. |

Offline | I'm getting about 33MPG on half motorway and half enthusiastic driving (so £10 of fuel gets me 100 miles). The first weekend i got the car it did a 700 mile trip goin down to Birmingham then Manchester and back to Glasgow, and the MPG was way into the 40s cos i was so surprised that the needle was moving so slowly!!! The only risk in life is to take no risk! |

Offline | I probably average about 230miles until the red light comes on from a full tank out of my chipped ONE. Costly I know but well worth it for that extra beef at the top end. |

Offline | Sorry to crash a One thread but, I was pretty excited when filling up this week, 399.8 miles (reserve light wasn't even on yet) 9.89 US gallons = 40 MPG on an 80%hwy 20%city split for the tankful. I wonder how good it would be on a straight hwy run of 400-500 miles. Hwy speed average approx. 75-80. City speed avg approx. 20-25. Again, excuse my enthusiastic crash on this thread again. Offline | Thought you might be interested, initially with 15" 7 hole's got a constant 42 mpg. Changed to 16" 5 star's and got a constant 36 mpg. I've now stuck a Milltech exhaust on it and now get, surprisingly, a constant 38 mpg. Was a 1, now 1 of 150 in a 40 |

Offline | Sad ONE Hi all, it's been a long while. Think I was the unlucky guy who started this string about fuel consumption. My ONE has clocked some 12,000+ km but I am still getting only some 8.5 km per litre of petrol. This is about 23.5 MPG (UK) if I have done the conversion correctly. I use Shell, which is supposed to give more mileage. I have also changed to a K&N drop in filter, hoping to help my ONE breathe better. But seems like there is no such effect. Can anyone offer me any advice as to how I could even remotely quench the thirst of my ONE ? |

Offline | I have owned my ONE for about 15 months and with the exception of very occasional longer runs the vast majority has been local- running to work etc. I only did about 5000 miles in the firtst twelve months and milage is now up to 13.5K- car was ex-demo with about 6K on the clock. I have checked MPG since I bought it and even have spread sheet with all the details on (how sad is that!) Car is averaging just short of 40MPG and is improving as time passes- recently been getting 430ish from tank. Car is also chipped (stage 2 Superchip) with K & N panel filter and S/S exhaust without any restrictions. Strangely enough car is far more flexible since "improvements" and MPG has not suffered in any way- I think that much depends on the type of runs that you are doing- if there is a lot of stop and start it will hammer the petrol consumption. It also helps if you can have a light right foot- my has got even lighter since I was caught by the police exceeding the speed limit!!!! |

Offline | 1) Fill tank (*), reset trip recorder or note mileage. 2) Do some driving (the further you go until refuelling the better). 3) Fill tank (*), note the distance (miles or km) you did since the last fill and the amount of fuel (litres) you've put in. Calculations: Conversion factors: 1 mile = 1.609 km, 1 imperial gallon = 4.54 litres a) consumption in kilometres per litre = distance (km) / fuel (litres) b) consumption in litres per 100 km = 100 / (consumption in kilometres/litre) c) consumption miles per imperial gallon = distance (miles) / fuel (imperial gallons) (*) Be consistent when refuelling: stop filling the first time the pump cuts off, for example. For example, my last refuel was at 360.5 miles (580.0 km) since the previous fill. I put 40.45 litres fuel in. a) consumption km / l = 580.0 / 40.45 = 14.34 b) consumption l / 100 km = 282 / 14.34 = 6.97 c) consumption MPG = 360.5 / (40.45 / 4.54) = 40.46 (Aside: not bad for a Cooper!) |

Offline | Lou - the Mini One has much longer gears than a VTR and a lot more weight. It will not accelerate as quickly, especially in 5th. I found that after driving a VTR for several months both the MINI Cooper and the C2GT felt a lot slower. But they are both much nicer cars, so was prepared to swap. tbh even the Cooper S felt slower than the VTR, but that's just a perception difference as it wasn't rattling, shaking, and blowing my ears out with the noise of the engine and exhaust! Watching the dials it was definitely accelerating at a fair lick. Going back to the VTR after the test drive it felt wobbly, loose, and not that quick ![]() 54 Plate All Black Cooper S with Chilli, BoostCD, MFSW, Heated bits.http://www.evoposters.net/carsb/album43 |

Offline | I thought a ONE got much better mileage than an S, looks like I was wrong. I usually get around 280 - 310 miles per tank, not bad compared to what other Coopers and ONE's seem to be getting ![]() |
