in hot pursuit of a hire car

i had a mini adventure of my own on friday night, some fat biff decided to kiss my drivers side rear wheel arch with his mondeo on my way home from work (heathrow airport). i was stuck in traffic and he had a clear lane beside me, once i heared the scrape i went ballistic, sounded the horn severel times flashed him but no good, he put his foot down from the lights and i gave chase it must of looked like something from starsky and hutch, after a couple of miles weaving in and out of traffic well over the speed limit i managed to catch him up and get him to pull over. he said 'you are making it up, i heared nothing' he looked at the scuff spat on it and tried to wipe it off. what the f@*k are you doing i said, he replied ' its only a stupid piece of plastic and started walking back to his car, i followed him and asked for his details, he said 'his was a hire car so you sort it out but im not admitting to anything. 'are you taking the ****' i said. he got in the mondeo and shot off like a bullet.
i went straight to the police station reported it and now he will be getting a summons dropping on his door mat for not giving his name.

What a git

Hope they throw the book at him.... or whatever they're allowed to throw for 'leaving the scene of an accident'.

Let us know if you get the repair paid for... maybe you can get it colour coded for the price

Same thing happend to me 7yrs ago. I was driving on a oneway street with 3 lanes. The Idiot in the centre lane decided to make a left turn into the side street. The problem was I was left lane slightly behind him. Basically my car him in straight on. The guy toke off instantly, thank god side was busy. Kicking and shout at him before he would get out of the his car. When he did he said " what accident". **** that, I call the cops and said he was driving under the influence.

Turns out to be a out of town driver - suspended license. As for under the influence - well anyone not stopping after an accident is definetly under something. Nice bit vengence watching the cops hassle him.

I would have scuffed his rear arch with my toes!

Probably would have been arrested for it tho

Justice eh!

expealadocious, even though the sound of it is something quite atrocious.

Hire car companies now have massive excesses on most of their fleets. That's why the guy probably took off. Most standard excesses are in the region of £500-£1000.

You should pester the Police for action and ensure that the case goes to court. If this results in a conviction, he'll get points and for failing to report an accident the hire company will automatically refuse further hires. I'd go as far as trying to get the name of the hire company from the Police and send them a letter.

In my misguided youth, I once helped my friend to move house from Glasgow to London. He booked a one-way rental van in Glasgow and 2 single flights from LHR-GLA.

We turned up at the rental counter and there were mutterings and panic amongst the staff. The manageress appeared and told my friend that due to a shortage of vans they couldn't allow him to have a one-way rental. He couldn't believe that the rental company had made no effort to contact him and warn him. After much argument and swearing he accepted that he'd have to return the van the next day. The manageress left and he was left to complete the booking with a junior. My friend asked to pay for the premium to accept a zero excess.

Later that night in London, we unloaded the van and he drove me home. Half a mile from home he shouted "f**king hang on" at me and promptly drove the van into a low brick wall, totally shredding the suspension. He calmly picked up his mobile and dialled the rental company - "Oops sorry, I've had a mishap, you'll need to recover the van back to Glasgow............."
