For MINIs, there are only manual air con or climate control, and climate control is the posher name for auto air con

With manual air con, you have to keep turning the dial up or down depending on weather condition. With climate control, you select the temperature on a dial and leave it - just like central heating

I am sure the nerds on here would correct me if I am wrong

Climate control

thanks, so at that means...

the automatic aircon is really Climate control. But i saw another option that said climate control and i think it quoted 1600 pounds where as automatic 830 pounds.

Just confused

Eh?

Just been to MINI UK to double check, two types quoted - manual = 600 GBP and auto/climate = 830 GBP, can't remember anything as dear as 1600 GBP when I was spec'ing my car, and cannot see it in the Optional Equipment list in MINI UK

I know a lot of people who have have it and while they thinks it's ok it can be a pain. When you first start up the fan can come on full blast till the desired temperature is achieved.

I have manual and find it great. Easy to operate and never go above the second speed to keep things cool which means it remains quiet.

Manual would be my reccomendation.

Paul

Manual's fine for UK climate - good for resale value but rarely need to use it

agree with bobnobski, spend the extra on other options - CD, packs, asc etc

your spec says you have auto ???????

I've got the manual air-con and it's fine - absolutely no problems at all. Works well, it's quiet - can't say much more than that really.

The £1600 could be the cost of retrofitting auto air con to a car with no a/c at all. The parts are £1200, so maybe the £400 extra is the labour.

United-States save some money

Save some money and forget the auto air and stick with the manual.

Sorry, I disagree with the majority about manual vs auto, as I prefer the easy of operation of the auto. Also, I found the manual air con in loan cars rather noisy compared with my auto.

I have the auto aircon on my Cooper, and had it on my last car (a BMW323). I think it's mildly annoying--it always seems to be blowing too strongly or not strongly enough, and I often find myself setting the temperature to 62 or 78 degrees (F) just to get the thing to calm down. I got it because it was part of a package with other things I wanted, like the sunroof, and I bought my car from the dealer's stock rather than spec'ing my own.
