Question MINI One Options

Hi!

I apologise if this question has been asked before. I only ordered my MINI One at the weekend - delivery in August :-( - and I just found this excellent site.....

Having spent a couple of hours at the dealers agonising over what Options to include on my MINI (and yes - I'd already chosen the spec at home!!) - I've plumped for the following:

Indi Blue, Chrome bumper bits, radio cassette boost, cd changer, manual air con, heated washer/mirrors & salt pack.

However, I've spent the weekend flicking through the brochures again - adding on bits 'n pieces in my mind - and I wondered what Options people are really glad they went for?
Also - what Options you wish you'd chosen, with hindsight?

Cheers!

First of all welcome to the site!

My final spec is bellow in my siganature, as you can see I went for a Cooper so certain options like full leather an s spokes become very expensive if not added as an upgrade with the Chili pack which is only available with Coopers. However you can still benefit from a wide range of optional extras that can be had by both Ones and Coopers.

I was originaly going for manual air con but right at the last minute changed to Auto as the car I test drove had it and I was really impressed by both its extra functions like the climate control and although not a great reason for the extra £220 its look great.

The things I maybe wish I had gone for from new would have been the clear side repeaters (but I have since found out from this site that they are simple to fit so I will retro fit them myself) I also considered the aero dynamic kit but was put off by the lack of chrome. Sounds daft but really the only other things I missed of the spec that I wish I'd ordered are just things like the hazard triangle and first aid kit as both are inexspensive and may come in useful reason I didn't pick them was that I was too busy thinking about those 17" S Spokes and what colour I was going to have!!!!

The only other thing that was close to being on my final spec was the computer but again to be honest would hardly get used past the first excited week!!!

the spec you have chosen is going to look really cool as you have managed to pick a great colour!!!!

The other thing to consider is your choice of alloys (if any)
Im not too keen on the pepper pot hole alloys most One owners go for and would probably bite the bullet and fork up the extra cash for some 16" Star 5 spokes, just a sugestion but not a really important one just a personal thing!!

hope that helps

Good colour, good spec, without getting too expensive.

I'd suggest speccing some of the 270 quid alloys (either 7 holes or 8 spokes), then sell them back to the dealer on delivery for about 250 and buy a set of 5 stars off someone on this site. Trust me it works, that's what I did!!

Varse's Velvet Beauty Mk11 is no longer, sold back to my dealer.

My One has the following options:
-Salt (floor mats, silver interior finish-a must!-, stowaway straps, front fogs, interiorlighting-pack, CD-radio Boost.
-Hot&Spicey( manual airco, boardcomputer, metallic paint)
-the 8 spoke 15" alloys.
Also Indi Blue.
IMHO these are the most important options, combining good looks with luxury. I wouldn't settle for less, especially since my boss is paying for it (company lease car).

Good luck with your One.
And remember: "the One is the one".

The Supercharger is a nice option. Tad pricey though. And it comes with all that flashy S badging.

On a One, I would go for the suspension upgrade to Sport Suspension, or Sport Suspension Plus. Then you get the same handling as the Cooper or S on your MINI.

I think you should sit in a car with the sunroof. Unfortunately, that might make you get one, and they're not cheap either.

Wheels are nice, but can be upgraded later.

Chilli Red/White Cooper S, Sport Pack & Sunroof. Delivered June 12th, 2002!

My ONE has:
- Black II solid paint
- Black Panther Cloth AQUA seats
- ASC+T
- Heated washer jet/mirrors
- 15" Alloy 8-spoke
- No smoker pack
- Air conditioning manual
- Salt package

I've only got the Radio Wave, as I mostly listen to the radio. The sound is better than any other car radio I've had, but the speed stability on the cassette is not brilliant. I'm tempted to retro-fit the CD auto changer at some point, if you decide to get the CD changer later, don't forget to spec the CD changer prep (option 870); it's currently a no cost option.

Climate control wasn't available when I ordered my car, but worth checking out.

Alloys of some kind will help the resale value of your car; I preferred the looks of the 8-spoke to the 7-hole, your tastes may differ. Note also that if you don't have run-flat tyres, a space saver spare is GBP 35. In its absence you get the MINI mobility kit (basically some gunk to squirt into the tyre if you get a puncture). If I get a puncture, I'll find out whether saving the money was worthwhile

Seats are also a matter of taste - I think the standard seats are very comfortable, but haven't tried any of the more exotic options.

I went for ASC+T (traction control) rather than chrome bits - more useful in an emergency and a bargain at GBP 100.

Salt was cheaper than getting things I definitely wanted separately, but I didn't get the choice to opt out when I ordered.

Don't forget MINI tlc at GBP 100 - it gets you 5 years/50k servicing.

I'd suggest you add:

1) Leather steering wheel/gear knob
2) ASC+T - good value and eliminates gap in row of switches
3) ISOFIX - future-proofing for re-sale time
4) Space saver spare
5) Alloys - any sort, just get rid of the steel wheels

TLC is taken for granted.

Definately get the alloys, you will regret it if you don't and they are far cheaper if you buy them now rather than in the future. If cost is a problem, stay with the standard radio and upgrade to a CD changer later.

Was a 1, now 1 of 150 in a 40

I went for the following options on my liquid yellow ONE:

8 spoke 15" alloys
Manual Air Con
CD Boost
Salt pack
Chrome inserts
Leather steering wheel
Heated washer jets & mirrors
MINI tlc

I've been very pleased with the options I chose and wouldn't be without the air con, CD player & leather wheel in particular. The alloys were a must as well simply because the standard wheel trims look so dreadful naff! The leather steering wheel was one of those things I wasn't sure about ordering initially but after feeling the quality of the plastic on the wheel at my test drive I realised it was a must!

The thing that really pleased me the other day was when I popped into John Coopers and the salesman mistook my humble ONE for a Cooper with the body colour roof option!

THANKS!!!

Well - Cheers Folks!

I forgot to mention in my original post that I'd opted for alloys and tlc (how could I forget)!

So, I'll be popping into my dealer later on to add:
auto aircon, clear side repeaters (?), hazard triangle and first aid kit, on board computer, supercharger (?), sport suspension, sunroof, ASC&T, space saver spare, leather steering wheel & isofix

Seriously - it's really interesting seeing what everyone's gone for. It looks like the ASC&T is a popular choice & I like the future proofing of the isofix (my best mate is very broody and concerned that I won't be able to take her not-yet-conceived baby out in my new car !).

I've also been thinking about sports seats - I'm off to do another test drive at a different dealer tomorrow (to ask all the questions and look at the options I forgot about at the weekend!!) - so will hopefully get to try them out there.

When I ordered my car, sports seats were not available on a "one" also I don't think sports suspension is available on a ONE.

The only thing I wished I got was the multi function steering wheel. It was only an extra £160 over my leather wheel.

Nothing beats a Mini
