Offline | Tyres I'm interested to know how long peoples tyres are lasting cos I've just had to get mine replaced at 9600 miles - I've got the ASC+T fitted and i would have thought the tyres would have lasted much longer! My driving covers a good mixture of Motorways and a little bit of twisties on A roads. Can anyone else share any experience on this? | MINI2 Global Moderator | My Cooper has the 15" 8 spokes with 175 Pirellis. I have covered over 13,000 miles and I am still on the original set. I must admit the front ones were getting very low but I have swapped them over with the back set so that I can get buy four wider ones when the others wear down... Did that make sense?? ! ![]() the MINI has gone... |

Offline | Glad its not just mine then! About a month ago I looked at my front tyres and though "*£$! they're wearing a bit fast!" ). Haven't got them swapped over yet, but I will do sometime in the next month or so. Driven 8000 miles on them since the 9th of November (over 4000 miles of that since the 2nd of March!!!!). The rear ones look fine though. Pressures checked regularly, so they've not been over-inflated and my Cooper has got ASC+T. maybe the power steering is to blame???? Although from past experience on my dad's BMWs, the power steering usually just does for the edges of the tyres... kjs |

Offline | Lots of stuff on the site about this - probably best to do a search.... but, in short, on the MINI they work via the ABS and detect changes in the rotation of the wheel due to changes in the circumference of a deflated tyre. kjs |

| Indecisive MINI Owner | Courtesy of Bruce, "The MINI’s tyre pressure warning system, part of its standard equipment, uses data from the ABS wheel sensors to monitor the rolling radius of all four tyres and detect any significant deflation, warning the driver if any tyre’s pressure drops below 70% of normal. But there’s a curiosity of the MINI design. Although the system identifies which tyre has lost pressure, the car doesn’t pass this information to the driver, who is simply warned that one of the tyres is under inflated.” ![]() Jon Blakeburn 2002 Raven Blue Lupo GTi |

Offline | Phew - glad to hear that it's not just me.... i got my tyres for £55 each at bugdet but i wouldn't be going back - the guy that took my car into the garage was throwing it about like it was a £200 Nova. When I ask to split the cost over my switch and visa and was treated like i had asked to pay with monopoly money. I wish i had gone to Kwik fit and payed a little more for better service. The tyre pressure sensors do run off the ABS and not any sort of sensor in the tyre. The only problem i have had is that when my front tyres were a little over pressure and the back ones were a little under the system went mad - this while is was overtaking on the motorway - a shock to say the least.![]() Mini One Chilli red with 15 inch pepper pot alloys, ASC+T, alarm, Salt and TLC. Offline | Tyres My Mini one has done just over 3000 miles and the tyres really are showing signs of wearing out. I reckon if I get 10,000 miles out of them I will be doing well. The car has not been driven that hard either. Its a shock becasue my clio 172 has covered 11000 miles now and the tyres are fine, and that has been driven very hard ![]() If she's not smoking she broken! |

Offline | Conventional Wisdom Wasn't conventional wisdom/general rule of thumb that you should expect somewhere around 30000 miles of a set of tyres. I got somewhere in the region of 24000 off the front tyres in my Fiat Punto and would have got substantially more had it not been for the crap tracking on that car..... kjs |

Offline | The 106 i had before my mini only went through 2 sets of front tyres in 40000 miles if i remember right. Is everyone here on the Pirreli P3000 - maybe it's something to do with the compound that is used in the tyres. If it is a soft high grip compound it maybe that the normal life span is short - what kind of tyres does your clio run on? ![]() Mini One Chilli red with 15 inch pepper pot alloys, ASC+T, alarm, Salt and TLC. Offline | The Clio 172 has got Mitchellin tyres on. The tyres are the sort or tyre that looks bald from the word go, but if you turn the steering wheel there is load of tread left of it still If she's not smoking she broken! |

Offline | I got my new tyres at hlaf the price of dealer prices - Mini Rubber cheap tyres my arse!!! Try shopping around a bit - but i guess if it's a fast puncture then your kinda stuck but if its slow then you can afford to wait for a next day delivery to likes of Kwik fit. Could be worse - i had to shell out for a new alloy and tyre 4 weeks after i got my car - the council lft a kerbstone sticking out of the verge after some road works - very interesting feeling haveing your tyre blow out at 50 round a bend!!! That said the Mini emergancy service were amazing - they ent out a car with a spare and arranged my loan car and everything - at 7.30 am!!! Offline | Re: Tyres I just posted a thread on teh faults and fixes forum about this, I should have done a search first! My Coop has done under 8000 miles in 8 months and my front pirelli P3000 175/65 x 15s are down to 2mm! The rears are still over 6mm. I was expecting longer life from the tyre than 8000 miles. I'll mention it to the dealers next week. I wonder what tyre wear is like on th 16" and 17" wheels? What tyres do they have? |

Offline | I think the 16 and 17's use a good-year tyre - possible an eagle because they are runflat tyres with a different sidewall structure. Mini One Chilli red with 15 inch pepper pot alloys, ASC+T, alarm, Salt and TLC. If you see me - SL51 MWW - gimme a flash of your lights!! |

Offline | That's outrageous! I'm assuming you don't actually want to take the tyres off the rims, just swap the front and rear wheels round to even out tyre wear. For a properly equipped garage with a trolley jack and an air gun it should take about 20 minutes to swap the front wheels with the rears. Think about it; 1. Jack one side of the car up with the trolley jack, 2 mins 2. Undo the four wheel nuts on the front wheel with the locking wheel nut adapter from the boot and the airgun, 2 mins 3. Same for the rear, 2 mins. 4. Swap the wheels around, 1 min. 5. Do up the wheel nuts on each wheel and lower the car, 3 mins. Do the same for the other side of the car and there you go, done it 20 minutes. |
