New Steering House??

My Mini One has driven only 35000 km and is 2,5 years old.
For the second time the Mini is at the dealers for the anual checkup.

After I brought the Mini the dealer calls within 4 hours with the message that my steeringhouse is completely busted, and that I cannot get the car back anymore because it is too dangerous to drive with!!
They have 200 mini's at service and this is the 12th mini with this problem!
I didnot notice any problems with steering what so ever and I am very angry because there was no callback of every Mini!! I like to drive quite fast and to think that all this time my life was at danger!? pff unbelievable!
The cost of only the steeringhouse is about 750EUR. The call is out of guarantee but BMW will pay for the costs exept labour costs which is EUR 200.

Why is Mini not calling back the Mini's to fix this problem?
Does anyone else has the same problem?
I am at serious doubt of the realiability of my Mini and am scared that after the same period the same problem will occur, with my life and/or my passengers life at risk!!

Now here I am again with the fixed mini.
For the first time ever my Mini is steering how it probalby supposted to be.
Smooth, light and direct.
This is something totally new for me.
I need to learn how do drive it now! it is unbelievable.
So it was wrong all the time. Since the beginning that I had the Mini.
The steering was really heavy, but I thought that that was normal, but it wasn't...

Glad its fixed Dirk-Jan, I have read of a number being changed but as you say, no recall.

Was a 1, now 1 of 150 in a 40
