Offline | Chrome line exterior and SALT pack Hi I'm new to this group and wonder if any members out there can help us with some questions. I've been on the internet looking for the answers but they seem to be hard to find. OK. My missus is looking to buy a used mini one, and we have seen one that looks like a reasonable deal from a franchised dealer in Stockport. The spec sheet cays the car comes with a SALT pack and also a Chrome Line exterior pack. My questions are: i) What exactly does the chrome line exterior pack come with?? The car is 2002 51 registered, and the only info I have found is that it was expanded in 2003 to include radiator grills etc. What should we be looking for on the 2001 car to prove the pack is on?? ii) Salt pack. Again, what does this include on a 2001 reg car? I know it is supposed to have an on board computer, but the car itself only had a temperature readout? Is this right? I would have expected it to have mpg and speed data etc? What is the "storage compartment" pack that comes with it? Thanks in advance for any help on these matters. Ta Dave |

| All White | Don't have the chrome exterior on my soon to be departed 52 One, but I think you'll find it has chrome bumper inserts rather than body colour and a chrome grill & boot handle rather than black. The 52 Salt pack doesn't have the onboard computer and I think it's the same as the 51. From memory, you get some interior lighting, the rev counter with temp gauge, floor mats, nets on the back of the front seats, front fogs and, umm, I can't think of anything else. Someone else will be along soon if I've missed anything. If you want a bargain 52 BRG One, see mine, here. I work in Stockport, so prob could arrange for you to see it, but will be px'd for peanuts if not sold by next week. Rob |

Offline | Hi Daverey, don't want to open a can of worms for you here, but some of the 02 cars had some nasty recurring problems, not all of which went away. You should make a thorough inspection of the car and it's service history before parting with your cash. Also, try and find out how many owners it's had. In early 2002 Mini made some significant changes to the build of the car and quality vastly improved. So for starters, try to find out the actual build date of the car. The main problems surrounded dodgy electrics, leaking windscreens and a consistent left pull. The chances are that the car you are looking at is fine, but you should go in with your eyes wide open. If the car has has just one owner, it's probably perfect. Any more than one and I'd be on the lookout. Root around on this site for things to look out for when buying. If you've any specific queries, just post it here - you'll get plenty of opinions! Just for the record - I had a disastrous 02 Mini, which turned out to have been built in 01. Since then I've had a 03 build Mini and have been driving a 05 Cooper for the last month. And my next car will be a mini too, so don't be frightened off, just be aware! You won't drive a cooler car for that cash! John ![]() '02 '03 '05 '08.. soon! "gotta love them twisty roads!" |

Offline | Thanks for the info guys. Just so you know, the car we've seen has only 1 owner and has only done 25,ooo miles - had a good look at it at the garage and seems and sounds pretty good to be honest. I also managed to get the answers to my original questions from BMW themselves - posted below in case anyone is interested: We can confirm that the Salt package for 51 plates will have included: - Brilliant Silver Interior - Floor Mats - Footwell lights - Front seat rear map pockets - Halogen front fog lights - Interior lights package - Passenger seat height adjustment - Revolution counter. The Chrome line exterior package included: - 1 bumper inserts front - 2 bumper inserts rear. Thanks again fellas Dave |

| The sans serif sheriff | I've got SALT on and Chrome exterior on my Jan '03 (built late '02 obviously). The Salt options must have been flexible as my interior is the standard dark metallic grey (which I prefer in my black MINI). The interior lights package includes the footwell lights, a light in the glovebox (if the storage pack is fitted), and also lights either side of the vanity mirrors in the sun-visors. The chrome exterior is the otherway round I think, there is one large strip on the rear lower bumper, and two small ones either side of the front lower grill. If it's not got the glovebox (and some don't), then I'd try squeezing the dealer to fit one as part of the deal Chances are, it'll have been specced by the first owner, I think it's only fifty quid.
