Offline | Mid-life crisis! Went out to buy a BMW 740i but was seduced into buying a Mini One.2 previous owners, FBMWSH, 76k and a few nice mods. It's not as comfy or quick as my 1987 735i but it's a blast to drive quick and people wave at you! I'm not sure as a 36 year old male if the Mini looks a bit young for me but who cares! Great forum by the way. Stevie. |

Offline | Thanks for the warm welcome chaps and chapeses! I'm really enjoying driving the Mini and have racked up a fair few miles in the week I've had it. (32mpg,,,,,,,,better than 16mpg I get in the 7!) I was a liitle concerned about the mileage but since it had a full service history and had been well looked after I thought what the hell! Does anyone on this forum have a higher mileage Mini? I had a BMW E30 M3 a few years back and the handling of the Mini is pretty much on par with that. Not nearly as quick but just as much grinning! I reckon a superchip is on the cards next. Mind you at £500 fitted it better be good. Stevie. |

Offline | I know of someone in the US who has about 125,000 on his and still going strong. The MINI (like any car) may have its problems, but engine problems are very few and far between. | MINI2 Master | can only agree, stevie. there is a story about how mignon came to me...wanna hear??? oh ok here goes ...mr mignon was ready to trade his previous 5 series beemer in for the new (at least here in oz) model in 2003. since he doesn't have toys to play with other than his trucks (he owns a transport business), i went along with him to the dealer to try to enthuse him about spoiling himself with a 7 series. he just couldn't come at the initial cost and the depreciation factor (can understand why,...the 5 series is seriously luxurious ). after the test drive, we got out of the 7 series and as a throw away-line i said to him, "never mind the 7, take a look at that (meaning mignon )well, as they say in the classics, the rest is history and mignon is now mine while mr m has a new 5 series bmw.like you stevie, i get the waves in the mini and mr m gets to drive a "nice car" cheers and happy mini-ing kerrie (mignon) WHY BOTHER TO SHOW UP IF YOU CAN'T SHOW OFF |

Offline | Feel better regarding my depleteing years now! Nice story Kerrie. I was seriously impressed with the Mini after a test drive. The mileage actually belies the cars condition which is superb! I've owned BMW's all my driving life and mileage has never been an issue. I took a e28 528i up to 374,000 miles with no major engine or gearbox problems. My current 1987 735i (LPG) is totally mint with only 1 previous owner and FULL BMW service history and a lowly 117k on the clock. Secret is just keep the oil changed regularly and the servicing up to date. I need a big car as a tow a big caravan (oh no I can hear the cries of disgust!!) so that's one of the main reasons I own a 735i. It's old and big.......mmm just like someone else I know. I'm glad I bought the Mini and not another 7. I love all aspects of my current 7 even the obligatory pipe, slippers and flat cap. My Mini gives me a sense of occasion and a bloody great smile everytime I drive it. They are fantastic wee cars. Stevie. |

Offline | I have to admit that my 7 is a far superior built car to my Mini, The 7 is over 17 years old and still feels rock solid. the build quality puts most modern BMW to shame. It's smoother to drive, quicker and more comfortable than the Mini! But every morning since we've had it it's a fight between my wife and I as to who is taking the Mini! As always I come second! No bad thing when second place has 220bhp! Rejunvinated, Stevie. |
