bonnet stripe maintenance

just got a new cooper with black bonnet stripes & they seem to have marks on them, probably watermarks. ive tried washing them & leathering them off but don't want to come off. can you suggest something to clean bonnet stripes with.

hi Berty - I would only suggest after washing a good quality wax.

Are they dealer fitted stripes or our supplied to you ??

Thanks for that. They are genuine mini ones fitted at the factory

if your MINi is new from the dealer I would go back and get them replaced if poss.

Beware though as the Bonnet stripe from dealer is classed as an accessory and therefore only carries a 2 year warrenty from the original purchase date - so if you bought through MINI Cherished I would just talk nicely to your dealer for a replacement set.

Failing this we can supply you with a new set if required.

I have the same problem with my bonnet stripes (mines are white) horrible water marks all over them, i had only had it about 8 months when i first noticed them and took it back to the dealership.

Only to be told it was just road bit and that it was normal wear and tear and that they would do nothing about it. So my car is just over a year and I'm stuck with stripes that i just can't get looking white anymore.

Typical they take your money and run.

if you had the car new and the stripes were part of your order or if its a MINI Cherished you still have a 1 year warranty so go back and demand some new stripes !!

BMW/MINI stripes are screen printed so they should have a protective coating on the print.

Ours have an over laminate if its a printed stripe - our plain cut vinyl stripes are 7-10 year external vinyl.

Also have you tried a decent wax to try to clean them??

seem to have got my marks off now, but i have tried waxing them with some very good quality wax's dodo juice supernatural, chemical guys 50/50 & p21s but all i seem to end up with is a greasy film on them, then i have to wash it off using car shampoo again. Any ideas or can you recommend a wax?

the dodo is good - I usually use a Meguires NXT spray wax to get water marks off.

i have exactly the same problem with my black stripes genuine mini ones, theyve been on the car for just over 2 months this is a joke!

go back to your dealer and show them the stripes - if only 2 months old they should replace them for you.

the dealer i bought my car from was 150 miles away! but my local dealership is going to sort it out, do you think they will let me choose a different style of stripe to go on? if i pay the difference in costs etc?

?? maybe if you pay the difference but dealers don't have a lot of choice unfortunately.

yeah i spoke to them they said i can get it done independantly and they will jus right me a cheque but i think ill stick with this style stripe £180 is a bit excessive
