Cooper S and Baby Seat

I did a really nice deal with a trader this week who had a cooper S that he didn't want on his forecourt. Only problem is now I've started reading the forums on here I'm getting a bit concerned that I won't be able to get a seat to fit it safely.

Please reassure me that I will be able to get something that will fit!

The car is a 52 plate Cooper S, I don't know if it has ISOFIX or wether the passenger airbag can be disabled or not. Help! We have a little one on the way in May so any advice much appreciated!

In our Cooper from 2002, having two boys aged 1,5 and 6, we have solved the problem like this:
The little one is sitting in the back (in a Britax chair) behind the passenger chair (that is in itīs most forward place) , travelling backwards (facing the rear hatch) which is the safest way to travel up to the age of 4/5, when they get better neck muscles.
The older one is sitting in the back on a special cushion with a strap that you put the belt in above the shoulder so there is no risk of strangulation.
I have seen some Miniīs with a child seat in the front seat, so there must be a possibility to disconnect or remove the whole airbag.
I suggest you double check with a Mini rep. to get information about all this.

different country, different laws, different car seats

Note the part about facing rearwards up to 4/5, thats specific to Sweden.

What I'd suggest is that you go to a retailer with the car, and try some seats in there, there will be something that fits, its just a case of trying until you find it

I didn't mean it

Halfords are pretty good at advice on child seats. Not sure about 2002 but my 2004 has ISOFIX mountings.

Not so sure, we bought it serveral years ago (2001) to our first son, but Iīll have a look and get back to you, but as Rakey points out, there could be different regulations about certain things, double check with the rep. or a supplier of baby seats.

You mean the EU hasn't standardised this? I'm going to write to my Euro MP

Just to let you all know (and for anyone searching in the future)...

We purchased a MaxiCosi Cabrio with the Easyfix base and it fits perfectly. We took the car to Baby Warehouse in Witney and tried lots of combinations but we were happiest with the Cabrio. It also fits together with the Quinny Zapp to create a travel system which helps save space.

Thanks for all your advice, only 7 weeks til we're due our new arrival...
