Primo Viaggio & Surefix base question

Hi all, hoping someone out there may have any suggestions to this, having purchased a Primo Viaggi car seat along with Surefix base. Have now got home & started to panic!

Have tried fitting the Surefix base to the rear seat of my '05 Cooper & am concerned it doesn't fit as described in the instruction booklet ie does not sit flush to the seat base & backrest. Do you think I really need this base or is there a better way to secure a Group 0+ seat?

Have seen on here that Maxi Cosi is mentioned a few times - is this a better seat to fit in a MINI. Unfortunately the assistant in the shop was less than complimentary about my car & could not understand why I wouldn't consider buying a boring 5 door hatch instead!

Thanks for reading.

Sandi

Sandi,

We have (well had, he's too big now ) a Primo Vaggio baby seat in our MINI, but I'm not sure what the Surefix base is. Is it just the base that connects to the LATCH (Isofix in the Europe) devices in the rear seats?

The Primo Viaggio base is a seat belt base I believe, its sold with the seat as the seat otherwise has a poor crash test rating, infact the seat was brought to market a few years ago and withdrawn after daming reports by Which magazine.

Last time I tried it in a convertible MINI it did not fit, but not tried it in a tintop.

But also knowing the M&P seat range I would not buy one, as at the end of the day there are better seats out there with better results than that item and it is there to save a childs life, not just fit on a specific stroller or look nice, so I would always buy Britax or Maxi Cosi knowing they perform the best on the market. Not that I am biased but seeing as I work for one them I have seen how these things perform first hand and the work that goes into making them the best on the market.

Thanks for the feedback - have decided to pass the Primo Viaggio on to my husbands car as it seems to fit well!
Have looked into the Maxi Cosi Cabriofix (Group 0+) & decided to pop into Halfords on my way home to see if they could demonstrate it to me. Well, I eventually found someone to talk to but they had no clue as to whether it would fit in the back of my MINI & were unwilling to try (it was raining outside I suppose!).

My MINI has ISOFIX fitted I think (metal hooks hidden under the plastic covers on the rear seat base?) so not sure if this seat can fit straight in or if I need one of those Easyfix bases which I am worried will hinder the amount of leg room for front seat passengers.

Any advice would be appreciated as drop day is fast approaching!

Regards

Sandi
