| I am not a number!! | But it could be one of those couple of days of the week that the child is in one of those poorer performing seats when it is needed to protect the childs life, so it is worth it. More accidents happen on the shorter trips than longer ones ![]() Have to agree with you on this and your concern, it always amazes me when someone is will to spend nearly 20k on a car, £400 on a pram that they then are not willing to invest in the most important piece of baby equipment, a car seat, which is there to save a life in an accident. Surely if the parents of the child that are leaving it with someone else then they should be as concerned to be buying the right seat for their own child, that would be my argument if I was looking after someone elses kids ![]() Because although you have been told that one if the up grade of the other they are both different seats, different parts and operations, could be one reason. The other is that all cars vary even under the same brand/model/interior etc which is why you should always try before you buy. My friend has one, its a great seat, one of the best selling on the market and one of the safest, which is why I recommended it to them. ![]() Its only a forum you know! ![]() |

Offline | Problem is that cost does inevitably come into it as well. If it didn't then why doesn't everyone buy the 'official' baby seat that MINI sell? I'm sure there are plenty of seats that are cheaper than the MINI one but that have also passed the relevant safety standards so they can be sold. I wouldn't be so quick to chastise someone for wanting to ensure safety but at a good price. I can't believe a nanny would willingly go out and buy a seat that was inferior in any way to a more expensive one just to save on cost - that's assuming that the more expensive one is indeed better in every way. ![]() <---- father of three who has had the official MINI baby seat (but I didn't pay for it) ![]() 170508 ![]() |

| I am not a number!! | Its just in the bigger scale of things what is £120 on a decent seat compared to £50 ![]() The official MINI seat is ok, but I wouldn't buy it, as I know there are seats that perform far better than that old Japanese model, as I'd want to have a high level of side impact protection on any seat that I brought, which isn't an official requirement right now. Its not just about passing standards, its about exceeding them, and buying seats which are developed for standards which are in development such as NPAC's rating system, which the cheaper seats do not even consider until its law to meet such requirements. Mind I guess I am personally a bit emotional on this subject having seen so many seats tested and knowing which are the best in the market, its just makes me not want to see anyone else take a risk and cut costs on saving a childs life. Decent car seat - £120 or Cheapo seat - £50 £70 saving spent on mods for a £20k MINI, or on something more important like a night out ![]() Its only a forum you know! ![]() |

Offline | I think when people are quoting the original poster's comment, they're focusing on one bit and not the other. Yes, it does say "dont see the point of speding loads on a seat tht is not the kids main seat" (sic), but it also goes on to say "but is just as good and safe." In my book, that's just saying I want a seat that is as good, but doesn't cost the earth. In your own reply later, you mention that the MINI seat isn't good buy, but costs more than better, cheaper seats. Isn't that applying the same logic? NB. I have to say, I thought the same thing, but if you read the entire thread (and you must have done to do that whole multi-quote stuff) then you'd see that she's not talking about £50 seat, but rather £140 seats as aopposed to £200+ seats - as outlined below. It seems to me that here's someone that's been presented with some options and is asking opinions about which one is best - that signifies someone that does care, rather than someone that doesn't. ![]() ![]() 2004 Mini Cooper Big Grin |

Offline | Well I know it's your specialist area so I won't say any more . But Tesco do good boosters for £8 (Britax too). I think I must have about 9 different baby seats/boosters for 3 kids just 'cos I couldn't be bothered with all the switching around between cars. Luckily only one booster required these days (well 3 really ).170508 ![]() |

| I am not a number!! | Oh don't get me started on booster seats, I know we make them, but a child is much safer in a high backed booster as boosters give no side impact protection. Once side impact becomes a legal requirement expect them to become a thing of the past ![]() Its only a forum you know! ![]() |

| MINI2 Regular | Question for Rakey - out of all the seats on the market (that will fit a mini) how do you rate them? You have already mentioned the Evolva (does this recline?) What are your opinions on the others, Maxi Cosi Tobi & XP, Britax Renaissance? Or any other suggestions? Cheers Emma |

| I am not a number!! | I'll not rate them, as that would be unfair, all I will say is that if I was buying a seat the easiest way to know you are buying right is to buy a trusted brand, from a company who leads the market in development of new products to constantly improve protection of children. Even before I work where I work now I would only ever have brought a Britax or a Maxi Cosi seat as they are true dedicated companies in car safety, unlike say M&P who make seats as people want them to fit on their pushchairs. But the other thing I like about Britax is that they were pioneers of these products and still are ![]() Check out the 'Which?' report if you want an unbiased review of products is a good point to start. ![]() Its only a forum you know! ![]() |

| I am not a number!! | Oh and if you want to see what I mean about pioneers, see this thread ![]() http://www.mini2.com/forum/minis-chi...ml#post3384257 everybody else just sold what they had whilst Britax took all of the comments that 'Which?' gave these types of products and developed something that deals with them and allows parents to lie their child down in the car which is a much better position to be in for longer journeys ![]() Its only a forum you know! ![]() |

I'm glad I stuck up for you, I knew just what you meant in your first posts and found certain comments uncalled for - Glad you had your say at the end! It's hard work and very time consuming researching a seat to fit!! I'm sure the little one will love his/her outings in your mini!! |

Offline | Pleased you got there in the end. We're still searching for the ideal fit and provisionally tried a Maxi Cosi Rodi. in the car last night. It was a mate's seat for his boy, but obviously, going from a seat which is anchored to the car (albeit via seatbelt) to one which is effectively loose until the seat and child are in, means it felf 'unsafe'. I'd need some more advice about just how correct this is before I'd feel confident. Sure it was fine though. ![]() 2004 Mini Cooper Big Grin |

| MINI2 Regular | Got the Maxi Cosi Tobi today, Hafords had reduced them to £155 then an extra 10% off for ordering on-line (picked up & paid at store). so paid £139. I'm really pleased with it, a really tight fit. I feel confident that it is a safe seat. Little Daniel seems to like it. It's a tighter fit than the 2 Britax seats we had in our old cars with my first baby. |
