Offline | I think if I was one of the parents, I'd buy a seat for you. Could you not demonstrate that their seat doesn't fit properly and that might convince them - I can't believe that they'd rather have their child in a dodgy car seat than fork out £100 for a decent fitting seat. How much are the seats that you're looking at? |

Offline | hi, sorry i didnt make it clear.....they are buying the seat but i only work a couple of days a week and i dont see the point of speding loads on a seat tht is not the kids main seat and they will prob only spend an hr max a week in on various short trips but is just as good and safe. red x |

Offline | i cant believe what your writing you "dont see the point" you are responsible for the child so its safety at all times is important in that short trip do you think an accident may not happen or wont be as severe because its your car. i just dont understand what you are writing safety is the most important thing i cant say it enough with your brazen attitude i most certainly would not let you look after any child of mine would you be happy with an inadequate seat for your own child and put money before safety or the fact "they will only spend an hour max a week on short trips" my friend is a traffic branch officer and was called to an accident the parents thought it was safe to allow a toddler to sit in the car and not be fastened in as it was a short trip when my friend arrived the mother was sitting in the passengers seat with her decapitated child in her arms. a car pulled out on them and the child was standing between the seats on impact the child was decapitated by the sunroof. if you were to be stopped by the police and found to have an improper seat you will be fined and the cost of the fine will probably be more than the difference of the seat prices. as a police officer i cant stress this enough and hope you see sense |

| MINI2 Regular | i think thats a harsh and uncalled post jimcupra. Not once has red111 impied that safety is not important, just wants a cheaper car seat. It's up to the kids parents to decide which seat/how much they want to spend. Red111 is just doing her research. ![]() |

Offline | Car seat 9mths to 4 years Have just bought a Maxi-Cosi Priori XP for my Mini One. On special offer from Halfords at moment for £120. A Halfords fitter checked to make sure it fits correctly. Also know someone else who has bought this car seat for back of her mini. |

Offline | I am currently researching car seats and buggies 4 my mini, due end of July, and it is a bit of a nightmare for the mini, especally one with no facility to turn off the passenger air bag like mine. Assuming all car seats sold in this country meet the relevant safety standards and since red111 has already rejected an offer of a car seat as it doesn't fit properly she's hardly being irresponsible just by not jumping in and buying the first and most expensive seat she comes across!! |

| MINI2 Regular | Halfords tried to fit a Maxi-Cosi XP into my cooper but said it was not a good fit which I was a bit gutted about, after all my research, this was the one seat I was expecting to be ok! I then took it to Mothercare and they fitted a Maxi-Cosi TOBI which is an upgrade to the XP but more expensive. I'm a bit confused as to why the XP wont fit my car as lots of others seem to have these seats! |

Offline | jimcupra ---- sorry if i came accross the wrong way. the kids safety is the most important thing (that goes without saying!!!!!!!) i just wanted to know if the £140 seat (for example the maxi cosi xp) is as good and safe as the seats that are £200 (for example the Bebe confort axiss). and what the differance is comfort wise for the child ie the seating position in the car - can they see out the window for example. i was also looking at the seats such as the Concord Trimax to see if any one else who had a mini knows if this fits the back seat. red |

Offline | We've got a Maxi Cosi in our other car, but when I tried it on a test drive in a Cooper, I wasn't happy with the fit. Now that we've got our Mini, I may try again, but I think we'll be looking for another one anyway as it's a pain to swap it between two cars all the time. |

| MINI2 Regular | Glad mine isn't the only one that the Maxi-Cosi XP is not a good fit. The Tobi was a very good fit, really secure but £40 more than the XP. I'm waiting another month or so while I can still get away with the Group 0 carrier seat! |

Offline | How do you find the seat in terms of depth? One of the major problems with our XP is that the seat and seat back are really deep. So much so that our daughter, 3, can easliy kick the back of the seats in our 'big' car. Meaning you have to bring the front passenger seat forward to give her leg room and to try and avoid getting footprints all over the back of the seat. ![]() As she sits behind the passenger seat, I don't like being a passenger as I can't get the chair back as far as I'd like - and that's in a 5-series! Is the Tobi any less 'deep'? That's one of the reasons I like the look of the Jane Indy Plus. However, looking at the 'what car seat fits' thread again, it does look like though the seat is slimmer, the ISOFIX Fixings push the base way out and it may still be a problem with room behind passenger seat. I think we're going to try our current seat (but I'm going to kneel in it when I fix it to get a better fit) and then look at what else is available when we have the time. |

| MINI2 Regular | It's hard to say as it was only tried in the car briefly when I was at Mothercare. I sat my little one in it and even at his age (9months) his feet were close to the front seat when in recline - would have to move seat forward more. I didn't expect anything less though as space is limited and put it down to one of the things you have to live with when you have kids and minis! Maybe compare them side by side in Mothercare or similar? My car is non Isofix, not heard of the Jane Indy Plus. Let me know how you get on as I won't be buying one for a month or so. ![]() |

Offline | Well, as we've now got tax for the Mini, it can come out of its hidey-hole in the garage. My Missus wanted to drive it to work this morning, so last night I fitted the Maxi-Cosi Priory XP in the back. Using a tip from another forum member (and I've forgotten who - sorry) I knelt on the seat and this really helped to 'sit' it down properly. I couldn't feel any movement on it when I tried pushing it around and felt pretty confident that it was OK to use. I then sat in passenger seat so that I would be comfortable as a passenger and eagerly awaited the results when our little girl got up and tried the seat.. While she did get up at about 4.30 this morning I decided that probably wasn't the best time to try her in the seat and told her to go back to bed. Anyway, I digress. Put her in it this morning - not too bad either as she can climb into it herself - and strapped her in and put the passenger seat back. It WAS tight, but if I'm not going to be in the car (I'm not most of the time as I cycle to work) then she'll be absolutely fine when I movethe passenger seat forward a little She will outgrow this seat soon though...according to the Missus. So not only will we be looking for a seat for the Mini, we'll probably need to buy another for our other car too. There are options however. If I'm going to drive, then it would be OK as my wife is shorter than me and can have the passenger seat forward. If she drives, then we could always move the seat to the passenger side. In conclusion, it's workable, but I suspect a slimmer seat would make us all a lot more comfortable and involve less faffing about. |

| MINI2 Regular | Thanks - I might take my car to Mothercare and get them to try the XP themselves, kneeling it it to tighten as you mentioned. It was Halfords who originally said it did not fit so lets see what Mothercares opinion is. The girl in Halfords who originally fitted the XP rang me the other day after she had spoken to her ex boss - her opinion/experience being a mini driver was the XP. As I have mentioned before, fellow mini2 members are using the XP seat so it does seem a bit wierd not fitting in mine. I will try to compare the XP and Tobi in relation to depth as you mentioned RM, if it turns out the Tobi gives us more room then I will go for that one. Thanks for all the help and advice RM. Happy Mini Adventures.............. ![]() |

Offline | britax Renaissance i saw a lady with a mini in the car park today with the britax Renaissance seat in the back for her little boy. i asked her what the seat was. she said that the seat fitted really well, her husband fitted it and he put his knee into it so he was sure it was in tight. the britax fit finder said that you may need o remoe the headrest but shehad hers still in down low and she said it had made no differance to the fit. her little lad is 18mths ish and she said because the seat sat quite high he was able to see out the window and he doesnt get car sick in the mini but does in other cars. she let me have a closer look and showed me the seat tentioner thingy. it made it really secure and i couldnt makeit move at all!!! i am impressed with this seat. a definate posibility!
