well, MINI failed my test

my g/f and i went and test drove a '02 MCS. we also went to Toy's-R-Us and test fitted an infant seat. and well, the seat was too big. evan w/ the seat all the way forward and the seatback almost 90 deg. the handle still hit the seatback.

and since we are planning to have kids in the future it' wouldn't be a practical car.

so next on out list is a WRX or Protege5(plus turbo )

From a different perspective your thread title could just have equally read "ToysRus toy store infant seat fails my test"

MINI do sell a full range of infant seats and offer isofix too. Have you tried looking there? Don't give up on a MINI for the sake of the back seat passengers just yet.

Racer - how do you think everyone else with kid seats are managing?!

Do you really think they'd have designed the car not to handle kid seats?!

I guess it depends if you want a seat to fit the car, or a car to fit the seat.

First of all, Mini makes baby seats, specially made for the backseats of mini's. If you're honestly going to turn your back on Mini, just because a seat from Toy's R Us didn't fit? I think thats pretty stupid. Talk to a dealer about the seats made for the Mini, they look pretty cool to.

Hope I could help.

Judging by the photo above though, they seem to do a selection of seats for different aged kids though... so I'd say MINI do indeed make an Infant seat.

Perhaps Monsta could even grab you the part numbers for the child seats from his "source"

Thanks for your input.......You are the Weakest Link.......Good bye!

No need for that, it appears the dealer has been the weakest link on this occasion, not mentioning the infant and child seats (or Isofix system?) that MINI offer.

There are lots of very good reasons to NOT buy a MINI, and only one reason in favor: you want one.

If you want one, you will find a reason, if not, you will still find a reason.

So enjoy whatever car you buy!

Most rear-facing infant seats (for babies less than 9 months old) are exceptionally bulky. Most of the seats, admittedly sold in ToysRUs in he UK are on the large size.

We're using a Mamas and Papas Primo Viaggio Child Seat at the moment. I couldn't get the seat in/out of the MINI without the passenger seat being pushed all the way forwards and the seat couldn't recline at a comfortable angle.

There are smaller seats out there. You just need to find them! Try a specialist baby centre with a wider range of stuff than ToysRUs.

There is just one moon and one golden sun; And a smile mean friendship to ev'ryone; Through the mountains divide, and the oceans are wide; It's a small world after all.

some facts and honesty

i have two kids. a newborn, and a 2 and a half year old.

fact: my older boys forward facing britax roundabout seat fits just fine in the MCS.

fact: the rear facing infant seat also fits, though yes, with the handle all the way down, its a bit tight. its a graco, not exactly sure of the model.

honestly: you are talking about the smallest car on the road. does it have a lot of usable space for such a small car? sure. does that mean its a great only car for a family? depends. but saying it 'failed' is like saying your 2 gallon bucket 'failed' to hold 3 gallons of water.

some things to think about, from someone with experience:

* two doors don't make it any easier getting in and out of the back seat, be it an adult or a child or infant carrier. being low to the ground doesn't help the situation.

* the MINI only seats four, which means the the middle, which i'm pretty sure is the ideal spot for the seat, is out of the question.

* kids come with a lot of gear (well, they don't come with it. you have to buy it.) while the people may fit, the gear may not.

so your rear facing fits? can a person ride in the ft seat as well??

i've emailed mini and asked them if they have a seat that works...

as far as you naysayer's....sorry if i'm objective. unlike yourselves i have not jumped into that mini purchases so i don't necessarily have to like the mini. unlike ya'll who like it or not, have 1, so your monitarily invested...i am not. i want to really like the mini, if i didn't i wouldn't be on this forum. but i also read WRX sites as well as Protege5 sites as well. like i said, i'm looking at it objectively...not infatuated. yeah yeah...you have to love the mini...been there done that..have miata and motorcycle..actually 2 since my S/O ride's too('01 ZX-6R)

Perhaps...

It could be the title of the thread, or your way of phrasing it that has brought out the naysayers. I believe that most of the replies were only trying to help you solve your child seat problems.

And unlike your previous statement, I don't think that any of us "jumped into a MINI purchase", it took 377 days of agonizing research for myself and alot of others, until we were able to own the cars. I'm afraid that you're late to the party my friend, and NOW have a great deal of experience on this website to draw from.

Like I stated before...it's your loss, not ours.

Are you honestly suprised you are getting negative feedback regarding this thread. Here are someother thread you've started recently...

problems yes/no

car missing at 6500rpm??

seems to be alot of problems w/ these cars

and now: well, MINI failed my test

It gets old when someone comes to a specific enthusiast site and degrades or picks apart the car we love!
It's understandable that you want to know as much about the car as possible, but starting threads titled "problems yes/no" seems a little redunadant when are already numerous threads and polls dedicated to this subject already.

Also, I feel the MINI is a either a love or hate car. If you don't love it please do yourself a favor and don't buy it. You sound like you'd be much better off with a mini van.
