Boot space

I just wanted to know if anyone had actually found a stroller/pushchair that will fit in the boot of a mini without having to remove the parcel shelf out the car?

If so can you please let me know what it is, as I have a friend that is desperate to buy a mini but thinks she may have to put her newborn child up for adoption if she does.

Can anyone let me know how they have got on using the mini as an everyday car with a child, so I can put her mind to rest and she can buy a mini.

thanks

I don't have my MC yet, but I rented one for a week, and did my infant tests, as we too are expecting a baby about 3 months after my first baby (MINI) arrives! For us, I discovered that I can fold 1 seat back down, and push a stroller so that it fits lengthwise in the car. The infant seat still fits on the other seat, and my wife and I can still sit up front. You can see how the infant seat fits in the Cooper at my gallery---link is below.

Unfortunately, I didn't take any pics of the stroller because it was too darn big. I've been doing a lot of research online and have found smaller ones from Graco, but haven't physically tested them.

Here is one couple here on the MINI2 forums that's dealt with it:
http://homepage.mac.com/scottgoldman...toAlbum57.html

Notice the stroller in the boot!

And when the infant is older, these are really nice booster seats:
http://www.gracobaby.com/catalog/pro...Number=8496FCL

Search the forums for infant or baby seats and you'll see two of these in the back of one users MINI. Very nice.

in the mini accessories book, there is a stroller in there, a mini one, now, if they were really clever, they would have made it so that if folds neatly and fits in the boot... which it prolly does. it looks nice too

Before we got the MCS we rented one too and the first stop I made was at a Baby store. I found a couple strollers that fit (sorry don't remember brand names, nor am I sure that was with the shelf intact or not.

I just proved one would fit and then headed for the canyons. All smiles ever since

Peg Perego makes strollers and I believe car seats that fit in smaller cars such as the MINI. After all, these are made in Europe.

Most strollers and baby car seats these days seem to be designed exclusively for Suburbans, Excursions, Explorers or Minivans.

Absurd.

It'll be a lot cheaper in the long run to put the kid up for adoption.

Put the kid up for adoption!?? Perhaps it would be better to farm the hubby out. He's the one needing lots of expensive toys.....

Stroller could then ride up front - lots of room there.

You called?

We've bought the Mamas & Papas Aria (single seat). It fits in the boot no problem. It's the best solution we could find.

Wow, Male bashing! I should have known that any thread dealing with strollers and kids would end up being the males fault.

Hi all,

thanks for the many tips and advice, and of course for a bit of male bashing too.

I was kind of hoping not to have the buy a M&P (Peg Perago) Aria, as I don't think it is from birth, and to be honest it does give that much support to the child. Think it is also a poor show that some of you having to put half your back seat down, that should only happen when you have to put the golf clubs in.

Was hoping more for a classic stroller, Macalren won't fit, the M&P Pliko won't fit, so is there really very little choice for is us Mini owners, look like I will have to get one of those stickers that says baby in boot and then put the stroller in the back of the car.

I didn't mean it

The M&P Aria is from birth, it falls/folds back.

Thanks Paul, do you have a cd changeer in the boot? If not do you know if it fits still with a changer in it?

Think I might have to get down to a store to try one in.

Both the Maclaren Techno XT and Mac3 look like they fold enough to fit into the MINI boot. I might be wrong though...

Techno XT = L: 104.7 cm x W: 28.5 cm
Mac3 = L: 79 cm x W: 43 cm

What's the depth of the MINI boot?

thanks, tried the Techno, as that was the product I liked the most, but it is too long, it won't fit across the width of the boot, especially with a cd changer in there.

Anyone know where I can get one of those baby in boot stickers from?

I don't, but my father in-law does, so I can see if I can get a chance to try it for you.

We tested a Maclaren Triumph in there and that was fine. Don't know if that would be a suitable trolley for a newborn though.

The Salesman made a mental note of the make as he'd not seen one go in before. I suggested they should offer trolley trade-ins with the car.

Don't know how a CD changer would affect the fit but the trolley was at an angle so perhaps would be okay.

Don't bother with the MINI buggy mentioned in the accessories catalogue. Dealer tried, without success, for 3 months to get me one!

I can highly recommend the Graco 'Kite' pushchair (£49.99 in the latest Argos catalogue, page 1012). It fits perfectly in the MINI boot.

P.S. Any baby-care shop worth his salt will let you try buggies in your boot before buying.

Good luck.
