What car seat you have !!

Hello,

You know what would be good, coming from a future mini owner, and a newbie to this forum.

A list of every car seat, tried and tested that fits in the Mini. (Without Isofix)
(A Sticky ???)

Being a prospective mini one owner, i will need to buy a car seat to house my 6+ month old son.

Therefore in order to 'Shop Online, without having to 'try before i buy', it would be nice to know which car seats everyone has and a very quick review???

Sorry if this has all been done before !!!

You've already answered your own question

No-one should ever buy a car seat without trying it before buying it. I have thought about putting a list up, but then I or the site could be held liable if there was a poor fit due to selecting a seat from it.

The only responsible way to buy a car seat is to try it, as every car, can vary from each model to the next, regardless of build years etc...

Wise words Rakey.

I have an 05MY Cooper, UK Spec, and use 2 Britax Renaissance Seats for my nippers, aged nearly 1 and just 2, BUT - always try before you buy - we even made doubly sure the second seat fitted as securely, in order to check for differences between the two seats as one was bought a year later ....

I couldn't agree more, we tried before we bought our 0+ car seat for our other car.

However, it could just be a list of what car seats people have chosen, bought, tried and tested.
It would mean that when you go to buy a car seat, you could already have a narrowed down list, to try in the car??
With so much choice nowadays, we tried 5 seats before we got one to fit our focus.
The list would be just a guideline, what people take from it, is up to them.

I am in no way, saying that the list should be, what definetly fits, this is what you should go for. Just to help people out when choosing and buying.

Sorry maybe i should of been clearer with this idea

not a problem, the other issue to note here would be that the baby seats can change very often, so it would also be hard to keep up to date with product changes. I know since we launched our seat in April, we have made 2 changes, none which would effect fit, but do make the seat different.

I just think the best advice is to always try, and any kind of list would encourage laziness on some peoples behalf and as all I recommend at work is to try, I could never condone it on here

Its a very fair point, i only thought it would be helpful for new mummys and daddys as theres a lot to do when buying all new stuff for a new baby.
I know that when i pick up our new mini next week, that i am going to spend time trying all different car seats, and a list of car seats people have already would of helped me out when it came to the fitting process.

But i do completely understand your points, therefore thread needs to go no further. Thanks

sorry I know it sounds really harsh and strict, but working in the pushchair and car seat field, I see to many problems when product has been used incorrectly or purchased

I know how much making life a little easier is when preparing, but, it is sometimes better to spend more time as you plan to do to ensure that you get the best product for your car and your lifestyle

But please do post what you have buy in the end, as it does help to get an idea across the threads of who buys what, and their opinions of how the products are to use.

Thats kinda what my aim was in the first place.
But to have it all in the one thread, rather than like having to search the whole board to find out what others had.

However i know that there is a danger with a thread such as this, that it could be construed as a guide on car seats etc, and i agree 100 % that you should try before you buy, The saftey of a child is paramount.
I understand exactly your point, and thank you for replying with some very sensible and important points that i hadn't really thought about.

Would it then be an idea, if when i try out car seats, to list my current mini model, and state what definetely didn't fit, and perhaps the ones that should be tried when it comes to fitting ?

Been thinking about this a bit more, what would be a good idea is to maybe pick all the threads apart that are in this forum, and put the reviews into one thread. Or even better to have just one thread which has a product review, which could then be a sticky.

Let me think about what would work best and I start one and sticky it, making sure that nothing else goes into it

Would also be great if we could have products fitted photo's too

In terms of car seats, I drive the convertible and found a real lack of seats to fit the rear. My little girl is 3 and wanted a booster seat for her but found all of the standard seats from Britax and the like did not fit. I bought the BMW Isofix seat which is fantastic. Expensive but as I have said on a previous post its a small price to pay fro one of the most essential extras for your car. It was the only seat I tried that really did fit. Oh the maxi cosi Priory Xp also fits and we used to use that occasionally in the mini although she will grow out of that seat in the near future so wanted a seat to take her forward fro the next 5 years or so.

As your child is just 6 months you will be looking to move your child into a forward facing seat in approximately 6 months time anyway. so unfortuneately you may end up having to get two seats.
