At last...I have finally managed to get a model of the new Cooper S (1/43 scale).

It is made by IXO in DS/W and EB/W.

I bought the DS version....Looks good except the dash and door trims are cream!! Looks perfect for a minor repaint and my number plate. Cost me £21.99 (full retail).

The DS is RHD (and the EB is LHD - I think).

DS spec appears to be DS/W, sunroof, Lapis Blue seats (not sure if its leather), 17" S spokes.

Well that may be true in some markets, but in UK, we may choose lapis blue in full leather or half leather.

Indeed, I've specced my Cooper S with lapis blue half leather:

In terms of colours the DS looks a little dark and the EB is possibly a little too blue, but both are nice models.

The build quality is very good indeed. My only gripe really is the fact that they have painted the interior a cream colour. External detail is spot on.

Wheels are good and the quality of the paint is also good. Certainly up there with the Minichamps quality and much better than the Burago / Maisto stuff.

I have heard that Minichamps (or Pauls Model Art) are likely to be producing an S soon - but who knows when with these companies.

I'll post some close up shots when its light again.

Please be aware of the retail prices on these. I'm a collector and think that £21.99 is extremely high for the quality of this model...watch ebay, here's the link:

From there run a search: IXO 2002/2003 BMW MINI Cooper S

The search engine on ebay leaves alot to be desired, but change up the wording occasionally. It depends on how the seller has worded the title of the auction.

There are none there as of today (10/29) but try again...Good luck!

Yes...£21.99 is lots, but I am impatient and it was there on the shelf. I've only seen four on ebay over the last few months and they have been £20+ (excluding postage). I'm sure in a few months the prices will fall (a bit).

I bought mine from St Martin's Models in London (they have a website). They can be bought mail order from Modelmania and Triple R models (supplies should be through about now). They advertise in Model Collector and Die Cast Models.

Judge the quality of the model for yourself....I will be working on repainting the interior, grille and roof later this week...

They look great, going to have to find one or more of those!

Some things do look wierd though:

- the antenna seems way out of scale, too big!

- the back lights look a little funny also

They models still look great though!
