I definately can't make that one - big meeting at work.
I think I only found one BMWCCA event at Watkins Glen, and that was the NY chapter. Maybe I'll settle for another go at NHIS later in the year.
Religion is like a huge dog. If it's yours it's very friendly and comforting, but it scares the heck out of everyone else.
Hey folks; new user here!
I'm doing a hillclimb this weekend at Ascutney State Park in southern VT -- should be fun, barring too much "weather." Any of you guys done any hillclimbing? This is my first run up Ascutney, and only my 2nd hillclimb (1st in a mini), and I'd love some tips if you've got 'em.
I'll post pics and vids if I get 'em, and if you're interested. And if the car makes it up the hill.
I have yet to do a hillclimb myself, but know a bunch of the people that run them. Our club (sports car club of vermont) runs some of the hillclimb events, but not the Ascutney one.
The advice I've heard for a new driver is to drive slow. Don't end up on this page: Boneyard
There are a good number of other cars that have crashed that aren't on that page.
A small sub-group of us (only about 230 or so) are planning a climb (actually more of a slow crawl) in a few week.s What's the name of that hill again? -- oh yeah, Mt. Washington. See MINIsOnTop Come join us if you can!
Thanks man! I think chairing an AutoX is an awesome way to spend the weekend. Hope you have a tent! Looks like there's potential for rain pretty much everywhere on earth this weekend.
I think I've actually hit the 5 post minimum so let's see what happens:
Today's autocross went pretty well. It was my first time being co-chair for an autocross. That part almost went well. We were short on "regulars" so some things went slow in the morning. There were two people signed up to do tech inspection of the cars: one didn't show up, and the other sort of flaked out and wound up not doing tech. So, I wound up having to do tech also (along with the other chair duties).
Had to wake up at 5:00am so I could make it down to the site by 7:00 to get things set up. So, between that and the rainy forecast, I decided not to bother brining the track / autocross wheels and just ran on my daily driver tires (BFGoodrich G-Force Sport - pretty "eh" tires). The morning session was rainy, and there was extremely little grip. I managed to spin a 90° going into a chicago box.
The afternoon was dry, and I actually felt like I was driving well for the first time in a while. I didn't bother to check my times, though, so I don't know how well I placed. I'm fairly certain I came out in front of the two MCSes that were there - but I have much more experience than the drivers of those two cars.
The big problem of the day was that nobody knew how to generate the final standings / results list off of our excel spreadsheet. There was a "generate results" button on it, so we clicked and and gave the results it created a quick glance and assumed they were right. Then, when I started announcing the results, someone mentioned that the time I gave as their best was not their best. They were right, and the results I had were wrong. All the times were recorded, so results can be generated. But it was embarrassing to not have results at the end of the event.
