Steve,
Disturbing to say the least. Could have done without that video.

Certainly not the response I expected.....I wasn't voyeuring death by any means. I didn't think anyone would find it disturbing. I've taken it down.

Don't get me wrong, the crashes where the car does it's job and shreds itself so that the driver lives are spectaular to watch, but there were way too many rag-doll people in that clip. The cars plowing into spectators, the bike riders being flung through the air and that last one in the pit lane...
Now that your post is gone completely, it makes my other comment look a bit odd..!

That's pretty sick. How many people did we just watch die..?

I missed out on it.. oh well.. you sure people actually died in the video?.. it wasn't just one of those "shocking moments caught on tape" type things where everybody lives but it just looked really bad?.. I dunno.. things like that happen everyday, doesn't phase me as much, not that it's not bad.. It's just not as "upsetting" to me, I guess as other stuff I've seen... maybe I should take a look at it.. PM me so's I can have an informed opinion on this..

you want to see a video that'll make your skin crawl or feel like crying and/or throwing up?.. watch the Nick Berg video.. that messed me up big time.. still haven't quite recovered from seeing that one.. although I did punch the guy that showed it to me until he was unconcious.. he thought it was something worth showing to someone else.. I thought different.. now he feels the same way I do .. nothing like changing someone's mind at the end of a fist when you have to..! (okay that sounds so much more aggressive than I actually am, but the hell with it.. you people know me.. I'm much more passive than that..!)

Stop the world, I wanna get off!!!

Oh, people died. There was a caption at one point that said 'Fatal Crash' and there were several cars crashing and then a huge fireball... not a nice way to go. I can't believe there weren't many other fatalities in there too. The F1 one was good though, the first two cars when through and then pretty much every other car in the field of 26 was destroyed. But I saw that one on TV in the actual race, and I think every single driver walked back to the pits. Of course, each team only has three cars, so lots of them didn't have a spare to go to..!
I know many people are killed in accidents on the roads every day, a shocking number in fact. The sad thing about human perception is that they all die in ones or twos, so no-one really makes a fuss about the total number. If it was a train wreck or a bus crash every day, I think more would be done.

Let's just hope we never see another one like the 1955 LeMans crash.

I've discovered how to do a split-screen video. So, I took a lap from NHRef's video (Carl driving with Pete as a passenger) and split screened it with a lap from my car. Not an entirely fair comparison, as I was solo, and the other car had a passenger and was being driven by someone other than the owner, but it's the best comparison I could find on my computer.

The footage from my car is shot at a wider angle than the footage from the S, so things look a little different. I did mess up the audio a little bit - only the sound from my Cooper present.

I'm downloading the movie now... for some reason it crashes Firefox (on a PC) if I try to view it in a web page.

Cool comparison Jason. Interesting to see the subtle differences in line. I only did NHIS once and I was amazed a how long you were supposed to stay out at the carousel and I could never get that blind downhill left correct just after it.

Yeah... consistent sure is the word. Using the timing on the video, not counting the lap or two where you were held up by traffic, the times are all within a second or two of each other.
