Ah yes. Ian is always ready to give "the answer". Can you guess his room number at the T&C?

Rooms

We're not gonna have the whole house--my sis promised to reserve a room for us that weekend. This means other members of the family will probably be there. Sorry about that She already promised me the whole house the first weekend of June for our niece's graduation from prep school, so I can't ask too much for another weekend like that.

Booked my room at the T&C for friday and saturday from the luxurious lounge atop MINI of Peabody while having my 55k service done and a couple of seals replaced ( I must stop clubbing them...)
As for tunes in the lot I can provide a 12volt sound system that would work if there is no AC available...courtesy of Cambridge Soundworks.

Observer's Comments:

01:14 AM Tue Jan 17, 2006 EST

Final stats for the day:
Windiest day on the summit since December 26, 2000!

Average Windspeed for the day: 101.9 mph

Peak gust: 142 mph

Miles of wind blown over the summit: 2446 miles!

Minimum hourly peak gust: 114 mph

Comment:
The right of initiation into Mount Washington’s Century club sounds rather simple, yet the club remains quite exclusive. The task is to walk around the observation deck in winds that average 100 mph without touching a hand to the ground or railing, or without falling. Nearly every former staff member has made an attempt (whether they admit it or not), and most have been humbled. As this is an unsanctioned fraternity of sorts on the summit, exact membership is unknown, but estimates put the ranks at around a dozen.

The relative safety nets that are in place on the summit allow for this attempt to be made. A railing around the deck limits the distance that you slide, and acts as a windbreak when it’s your time to crawl. A second doorway in the front allows an escape route that you can travel with the wind to get to. Shelter and warmth are always within reach.

Winds around the noon hour were beginning to slacken from their extreme averages of the morning, and confidence among the interns up here was running high. In a moment of hesitation though, they decided to fuel up with a hearty lunch. MISTAKE. As they geared up to go outside, Mother Nature geared up herself for a fun game of human shuffleboard. As the crew stepped away from the shelter of the tower, one by one they were leveled and began to slide on the slightly slick surface. A gust hit 137mph just as they left, and failure came swiftly!

The far railing stopped their 150 foot slide, and they found that hand grips were covered in ice. There would be no making it back to the tower, and the front door was used. All in all, a miserable attempt. And for some reason, no one wants to try again!

What went wrong? As you can see here, the difference between winds of 100, and winds of 137 mph is substantial. Nearly 200 Pounds more force per square meter with that 37 mph increase.

This ranks as the windiest day in my three winter tenure on the rock pile, and exact stats will be posted tomorrow.

Despite my usual superhuman efforts, I could not persuade Gov. Lynch to include MOT in this year's State of the State address. However, there were some thinly veiled references to the event.

* "bi-partisan efforts" an obvious reference to the fact that MOT is open to even the slimiest of MA residents, the bottom-feeding Cod.

* "fiscal responsibility" certainly a recognition of our frequent safety warnings.

* "effective response to disasters" notable, of course, as the Area 51 crowd crosses the state line.

* "dynamic progress" Like Carol Burnett's earlobe pull, this referred to newly acquired walking technique of the Big Brit...to wit, aggressive arm swings and one foot following the other.

Efforts to have 6/17/06 declared MINI Day slightly stymied until assurances are received that there will be nothing made with suet served to attendees. I have, of course, countered by pledging a fullblown British panto at the peak.

How about lobbying Congress to have June 17th declared a federal holiday?

Black Cooper Pre MOT plans? Bar Harbor?

Are there any plans for another Bar Harbor or such rally pre the MOT event???
We want as much New England MINI fun as we can fit in around MOT!!
And when can we actually, truely sign up for the events????
Our 2 MINI's def want to attend!
From the Chicago Mini Club, we may start a rally out with other interested parties if we can get the dates and logistics. Many MINI's makes much FUN!

Have there been any MOT2006 emails yet? I think I signed up previously, and got an error message but was told it went through. (Might have been 2005- time flies when you're having fun!)

Tried it again just now- gettting a "Processing your request" message, and "If your browser does not redirect you click here" with the URL for minisontop redirect htm.

The "redirect" page that you get to after adding yourself to the mailing list is still broken - it redirects to itself when using firefox. The HTML for that page is all garbled up...

Are we supposed to get a "congratulations, you're on the email list" email after signing up? I didn't get one, and coupled with the broken form, I could believe that I didn't get added to the list.
