Well, if we send one a day from one MOT to the next...

Don't think I've gotten any emails though. Is that because there haven't been any yet?

Ha, ha! Will def try and persuade Gabe to join the ranks! I think he needs some eastern hospitality! Liam is a good possibility!
In the meantime, glad to hear that I'm not the only one not to get a "registered" notification. A nailbiter waiting for MOT to officially start rally openings!

(Messed up my earlier post)

If the Chicago group comes across NY on the Thruway, the Buffalo & Rochester crowd (optimistically speaking) can jump in. We'll be leaving Rochacha on Thursday & spend the night in western Mass to join the Yankee Candle caravan up to MOT on Friday morning.

Liam the Gnome?

Another Rochester Mini here. Let us know if you're heading east on 90. More Minis makes it slightly more interesting.

Good idea. Might stem some of the "I signed up but never received an email!" posts when registration does open...

More events like an autocross etc would also be nice.

I hope the MOT crew hears this idea loud and clear! Great idea to give everyone a chance to get up to the top of the Mt on two days... or maybe 2 runs in one day?!!!! It would be a shame not to be able to go up if you want, especially when driving cross country. Funkhana for the low life, would be cool too! Do we need to yell? Or will a number of interested MINI's right now give them time to make arrangements?

The way it's now set is that we all ascend after the Auto Road is closed to the general pubic for the day. Basically it's everyone up at the same time and then back down, although descending is is more on a one by one or small goup basis. Regardless, the road is being driven by cars all going in the same direction.

In order to get two runs on a single day I'd imagine the price of ascent would have to be raised substantially to make up for lost business by the Auto Road. Alternatively, one of the runs might be during normal business hours. I for one would not like to be drivng up while some goon with a land yacht is heading down and crowding the center of the road. That road is narrow.

Two top-of-mountain runs of the type we have - the only cars on the road - won't happen.
Also during the day of MINIsOnTop, the road is used for a running race (that is how we get to use a big tent for free) so for much of that day I don't think ANY cars go up.

MINIsOnTop is organized the way it is to have everyone meet at the base of the auto road and drive up, after hours, when there is no traffic coming down - in the apparently vain hope of seeing another sunset like in 2003.

There is NOTHING to stop individuals / groups proposing and organizing satellite events - for example the Yankee Candle event was organized in 2004 as something to do on the drive up to NH, became popular, expanded in 2005 to include Area 51.

Also in 2005 the Friday evening events expanded, with the Trivia contest (which will be repeated) and Steves moose hunt.

Nothing has ever been planned for Sunday ... but if people have ideas it would be great to see them actioned.

In 2005 other new events happened - the RC drive was under-attended (perhaps because of the weather); the photo hunt was well organized by Ivan, but I think it took much time and he is ready to do something else this year.

I realize PJ that you are planning to come a long way so presumably want to make the most of the trip - but many MOT attendees come up Friday evening and head home Sunday ready for back to work Monday.

In the end remember all of MOT is done by volunteers. We have completely burned out Steve (Cape Cod MINI) and John (JCSinNH) who this year will be participants only. Most other Yellow Shirts are discussing now and hope to continue the tradition successfully - new stuff needs new planners!

Any idea on the exact weekend this year... from past years it would seem to be June 17th-18th, but maybe we can do it the week before? My good friend has decided to get married on the 17th and therefore the MINI and I will be driving from NH to West Virginia... but if MOT 2006 is the 10th-11th, then I'm the happiest MINI driver out there.

Can't wait for the word!

Yes ... to quote from the first post of this thread ...
MINIsOnTop (June 17th, 2006)

The date is basically set by the previously mentioned running race and tent availability.
