I just read the MOT article in MC2 this morning, and I must say great job, Theo. The best-written piece in the whole magazine. No doubt due to the included NYNE wit.

Got a terrific rate at the T&C when I told them I was pre-registered for MOT, 2006. Then I asked for a specific room, wanting that same one (was it #186, Rick?) that was under construction last year or the one like Tony and Wanda had with the 2 "full-sized" beds. And I wanted to be as far from the Cod as possible. They said OK but took my discount back.

I must say that I was a missed seeing some of the fantastic photos submitted by you, Aqualung, snid, and GBMINI. They would have been a terrific compliment to Pam's fine work.

My sense is that ad space was an important consideration in the first issue. Thus, the editor was faced with a page limit that had to include a balance of "bill paying" and artistic issues. Frankly, they could have dropped that little "get together" in NC and given us those pages !

We'll do it again this year and, hopefully, get a little more play.

Booked at the T&C also. Same room (#123) and rate as last year...looking out over RT 2 and the Ed Smith Memorial Tee Box.

In on Friday night, out on Sunday morning. Can't wait!

Thanks Theo, will just have to shoot tons more this year I'm currently lusting after the new Nikon D200 -- may have to forgo lightweight wheels this year and allocate the funds to that, it's a beaut!

I recently had naughty thoughts looking at this:

But, that would be silly when I really want this:

This is on my list, too:

Ain't gonna happen, though.

If things like that give you naughty thoughts, you need to see a good shrink...

On-topic content:

MINIs On Top is an event centered around a motoring trip up to the summit of the tallest mountain in the east, Mt Washington, in order to watch the sunset with 220 or so MINI-loads of your closest friends. The date is June 17th, 2006. Prior to the ascent, there's a catered dinner at the base. There's also a growing assortment of other events going on during the weekend, including a Friday night gathering, various drives, an R/C rally, a photo hunt, organized drives to the area from all around the region, etc.

This is not a free event, there is a charge for going up the hill and there's a charge for the catered dinner. There will also be the opportunity to buy window decals and t-shirts. A great many various and sundry items will be raffled off to support an as-yet-to-be-named charitable cause. Details on past costs and good causes can be found at www.minisontop.com under "MOT 2005" and "Times Of Yore".

Details on all this and more will be posted as they become available. As ever, the best places for up to date info will be www.minisontop.com and this thread. Go to this link to sign up for updates. Contrary to all the in-jokes from previous years, there isn't really any pre-registration or pre-pre-registration or whatever else. Just sign up for the update list, and when the time comes that you can register, you'll be told ASAP. Registration is first-come, first-served, and there is a limit on how many cars can join (a limit we bumped into last year, so get on that notification list now!).

Well, not quite.

North Carolina's Mount Mitchell tops out at 6,684', although its auto road ends .2 miles from the peak. So I guess you could say we'll be the highest motorists in the east!

Bringing the driver

Hi Kids:

I'm bring Ed's Big Bertha driver and dare anyone to drive it farther than he did, without the hook or the slice. Am looking forward to MOT 2006, meeting at Yankee Candle. There's safety in numbers. Ed's brother Bert, is coming with me, as well as Hannah, my golden retriever! I will bring my scrabble board and challenge anyone to play - especially Laurie and Bert! Oooooh, I can't wait!!!!

Love to my mini-friends!

Mart
