Well, it's that time of year again! Time to sign up for the Yankee Candle & Area 51 Caravan to MOT 2006 on Friday, June 16th 2006.
Please sign up by posting to this thread with your alias, the numer of passengers in your MINI/Mini, and your desired meeting point (YC or A51). I will update the first page of this thread with peoples' information as they post their interest.
Basic Information:
This year we are again inviting all Minis and MINIs to join the Yankee Candle & Area 51 Caravan on Friday, June 16th, 2006 to MINIs on Top in New Hampshire. There are two meeting points at which people can join the caravan: Yankee Candle in South Deerfield, MA and Area 51 located north of Concord, NH.
The Yankee Candle Factory Flagship Store is located just off Exit 24 of Interstate 91 North in Western Massachusetts, and is about 4 hours from New York City, about 1 hour from Hartford, CT and about 30 minutes from the intersection of the Massachusetts Turnpike (Exit 4) and Interstate 91 North. The YC location is a logical meeting point for MOT attendees coming from western MA, western CT, NY, NJ, and all other locations in the mid-atlantic, southeast and midwest areas of the US. The caravan will leave Yankee Candle at 11:00 am.
Area 51 is a rest area at about Mile 51 on I-93, 15 miles north of Concord, NH. There you will find plenty of parking, grassy picnic areas, vending machines, and restrooms. This is an excellent meeting point for MOT attendees coming from central and eastern MA, RI, and eastern CT. The caravan will leave Area 51 at 2:00 pm.
We will travel the beautiful backroads of MA and NH to the Town & Country Inn in Shelburne, NH. This will once again include the magnificent vistas on the Kancamagus Scenic Highway, the narrow and twisty Bear Notch Road (which is only open in summer), and a drive past the MT. Washington Auto Road. Estimated arrival time at the Town & Country is about 4:30 pm.
Detailed Information:
There is a new YC & A51 Caravan website for 2006. It contains detailed information for both meeting ponts. You will also find complete route mapping and detailed driving directions which can be downloaded and brought along to the events. Also presented are pictures from last year's event and other helpful links. Click the link below to go to the new website:
Yellowmininy, might be just me but still have a few people I'm trying to talk into coming along. Coming from the west (Rochester, NY), so anyone coming this way let us know for the caravan to the caravan!
Hi, I will be meeting up with you at Area 51 assuming that my registration is confirmed for Mini on Top. I will have possibly another person with me, not sure yet.
Donna & I will be doing the YC thing and caravanning up.
We couldn't decide to do that or the BH thing. Sooooo we took the week after MOT as vacation too, will do the YC with the group, then head up to BH and Arcadia NP after.

Wow, it's only been a few days and we already have 11 MINI's signed up! A special welcome to those of you who are new MINI owners and to those of you who will be attending MOT for the first time. You're in for a real treat! The first year there were about 11 MINIs in the caravan. Last year we had a 37 MINI caravan to the Town & Country. This year we could easily top that number.
And thanks to all of you for considering this event. The meeting points present an opportunity to renew friendships, meet new MINI owners, and do some serious socializing. You will find the veteran MINI and MOT folks very approachable and eager to answer all newcomers' questions about MINIs and the MINIs on Top event.
Don't forget to bring your FRS/GMRS walkie-talkie radios if you have them. For our events in New England, we use channel 7 and no subchannel. The banter over the radios as we drive is half the fun of "caravaning". Also, the radios are helpful during the events at MOT to stay in touch with each other.
The organizers will be monitoring a "HELP" radio channel (to be identified later) at the Loon Lot and at the base of Mt. Washington in case any emergency situations arise. We have a group of folks who are medical professionals and folks who are first aid/CPR trained in case a "first responder" is needed. If you are a medical professional or are FA/CPR certified, please let me know so we can add you to our list.
Finally, I'd like to thank Chip Slattery (chs4) for offering to be the Area 51 Meeting Point Coordinator. Last year Chip worked along with Harvey and Terry to do an excellent job pulling-together the Area 51 details (including a wonderful memento hanging on my den wall!).
Again, thanks for all the support for this event!

Thanks for putting this together again! And I think the best momento is the one your son gets to drive around in...
