Wink Recommendations for going really, really FAST.

Hi everyone! I ordered my MCS yesterday. I know I have a long ways to go, but I absolutely cannot wait to get behind the wheel already! My previous two cars were a station wagon, and a pathfinder. This is going to be my first 'performance' vehicle.

This may be a strange request. I remember a long time ago, my dad would tell me about how he would get up at 4:30 in the morning and take his Porsche out to a deserted hwy just to get her well over 100mph without worrying about cops or other drivers. I'm really, very interested in doing something similar. Does anyone know of a great place around Boston to accomplish this? I'm really not keen on the idea of trying this on 95 or anything like that, but perhaps a more obscure stretch that is appropriate for such speeds? I've heard of people actually paying for track time, but I'm looking for something more local. Keep in mind I'm a very safe and cautious driver, but I feel that a brand new MCS deserves to stretch her legs a bit - and I'd like to do so without getting pulled over!

Just for safety's sake, you'd be better off going to a performance driving school and learning to do this on a racetrack that is made to handle the speeds. We'd like you & your Mini to be with us for a long time!

You are probably right... but what's the fun in that? Anyone know of any good schools?

The only place to test your car's top speed is on a track.

Route 2 in rush hour traffic.
According to my ticket and the judge I was apparently going 95.

Don't try going even the average speed of traffic around here without a good arsenal of counter measures like a Valentine 1 and a laser jammer.

And yes, as for track time, NHIS is not far away and the BMWCCA offers many track days that are relatively cheap (although still out of my price range).

The Boston chapter of the BMWCCA will help you get your MCS up to speed... On NHIS you should be able to top 100mph. My Cooper can't get to 100mph there, but an S could.

Another option is the drag races at New England Dragway in Epping, NH:

You're right Aprilwhine - I realize this is probably a bit too controversial for a thread on this forum, which incidently, I have begun to enjoy being a part of. I'll be more cautious next time. Thanks though, to everyone. And you be safe, Jwardell.

I've seen 150mph indicated speed on my Cooper S Works at 5.30am on a sunday morning on a long empty 'private' road..... had to be done, just the once....

3 advantages of a Sunday morning blast....

1) roads are empty

2) plod (smokey) is in bed....

3) on cooler mornings the Cooper S goes that little bit faster.... air density and coolness etc....

Have fun but saftey first.

Keep in mind also that there is a 1250 mile recommended break in period where the car shouldn't be driven over a certain speed limit (I can't remember what it is) or revved above 4000 rpm.

Baaaahh Humbug.. he'll last 500 miles, tops..!..

BTW.. you'll never get above 91 or 92 at NED until you have a ton of mods.. but it sure is fun! Other things are fun too, but I'm restricted from talking about them as Sherry pointed out earlier..
