Advanced Driving Skills School

Time for another of the excellent BMW Car Club of America (BMWCCA) - White Mountain Chapter's "Advanced Driving Safety Skills" school!

The Advanced Driving Safety Skills school is designed to help you improve your driving skills and to learn about car dynamics. The school's dual purpose is to prepare students for our High Performance Driving school and to teach skills useful in everyday driving situations.

The school is held in a large parking lot, using plastic pylons, to provide a safe learning environment for these low to moderate speed maneuvers.

The day begins with a "chalk talk", where expert instructors explain about vehicle dynamics, the techniques students will be taught, and summarize the exercises for the day. Click here for the ADSS curriculum and an in-depth understanding of what the school will cover.

Students will spend time on our skid pad and figure eight course, learning about understeer, oversteer, steering with the throttle, secondary effects, "the line", and power-slides. These basic building blocks are key to learning how to bring you car under control, when the unexpected happens.

The next Advanced Driving Safety Skills School is
  • Saturday August 12th, 2006 - 8:00am
  • NHIS (Loudon New Hampshire)

Many MINI2 folks have taken the course over the last three or four years. Hopefully they will chime in with their thoughts on just how beneficial this course is for every driver.

These are a great learning experience, even if you don't have plans to get on a track.

If you do have plans to get on a track, the skidpad excercises are invaluable. You are actually encouraged to get the car to spin (unlike on the track) so you can learn what it feels like and maybe how to recover, which is not easy in a MINI.

The ADSS is for everyday driving. For those emergency situations. It should be part of everyone's drivers license training. And fun too!

It may not be easy in a MINI how to recover, but it's very easy in a MINI to feel when you're about to lose traction and go into a spin, and start the recovery sooner.

Well, since there are not many driving schools and MoP offers service every Saturday, can you change the appointment? (I'm assuming that with a service date a few weeks from now that there's no drivability problems.) Worth considering . . .

Maybe I should.. have just been wrapped up in too many things.. my MINI already has 19,000+ miles without her first service (I did the oil/filter) so I've been stressed about getting it in. Will look into it after I come back from vaca in a week.

Thanks.

P.S. got the CG-lock yesterday.
