i'm planning to go to NYC with a few friends at the start of December and wanted to know if anybody knew of any hotels that are centrally located and are reasonable priced??
The Library Hotel, near the main NY Public Library building, 5th Ave and Grand Central Station is great. The place has a Dewey decimal book theme with each room containing books on a different subject (hint erotic literature is on the 8th floor). Breakfast is included, free wine and cheese on weeknights, complimentary cookies, snacks, etc available in the Reading Room at any time. Free internet. Staff is wonderful and rooms are nice. I'm not sure if the price is reasonable, though it's in normal NYC range
If you don't need to be right in Times Square, the Hotel Martinique near Penn Station is a nice hotel, very reasonable. I think it's now a Radisson, when I went it was a Holiday Inn so I was an expert on everything It's on the edge of Koreatown....
I highly recommend checking our Priceline for hotels at the best rates. They've changed their layout lately - when you first get on they show you hotels with rates listed, but if you do the Name Your Own Price option you can do considerably better. If you're going on a weekend you can usually get the best rates, since all the business travelers have left town. The only exception is Las Vegas, where rates are higher on the weekend (go figure).
Also, if your trip is that far out, you can put in a low bid on a 3 star hotel, and if you don't get a taker, you can re-submit in 72 hours and raise it $5 and try again. I've used Priceline for all my business travel hotels for four years, and I am a huge fan. If you want to ask any questions you can always PM me. (Although I'm leaving for Sin City tomorrow afternoon).
