Autocross - team competition - NHIS - October 15

The details are at the bottom of this page - it's the "North Country Rumble". It does say "Established Auto-X clubs around New England and Eastern NY", but I bet we could sneak in some sort of MINI team.

http://www.sccnh.org/autox.php

The basic idea is one car, four drivers, best cumulative time wins. Last year, the Sports Car Club of Vermont won (the club I autocross with).

My Cooper is currently sick (no power steering), but it should be fixed by then if it was decided to use my car. The clutch isn't perfect on it, but it's still a pretty good autocrosser. Or, someone else's MINI could be used. I'd love to abuse, I mean use, an MCS... hint hint.

If we can find 3 more people who want to go, I'll be one of the 4 drivers.

The winning strategy from last year was the have each of the four drivers have a clean run, not necessarily a fast run. SCCV was the only team to have 4 clean runs.

There's also a normal autocross on Saturday October 14.

I also posted this on the Ocean State site.

If the idea grabs traction, someone will have to contact the SCCNH folks to make sure we can "make up" a MINI team without an established autocross club behind it, or possibly represent one of the BMWCCA chapters without really asking the BMWCCA about it.

I'd volunteer to do the legwork, but I'm going to be pretty busy this week, and hopefully out of town tuesday-thursday for a track event, assuming my power steering gets fixed in time.

Hey Jason, exactly what constutes a "street"tire? I'm thinking modified/street.

Street tire is usually defined by the tread wear rating. I think in SCCA terms, the cutoff point is 140. Basically, not R-compounds. Your tires are street tires, Azenis are street tires, Toyo RA1 is not...

Toyo RA1 is a better track tire than an autocross tire. You can get them from Edge Racing - Home or HMS Motorsport and lots of other places too. Great track tire.

For autocross, something like a Kumho Victoracer V700 is the hot ticket.

There are a bunch of "competition" tires available from tirerack:
Track & Competition DOT Tires

Many of them are not available in MINI usable sizes, though.

Most of them have a treadwear rating of 40

Hey Pat, check out the magazine Grassroots Motorsports. Geared towards autocross / amateur racers / HPDE / track day crowd. Not mega dollar supercar stuff, but things the average joe could actually afford / use. Lots of resources to be found in their advertising, too.

You should be able to find it at Borders or Barnes and Noble.

Great magazine... the writers / editors own and MINI and have used it as a "project" car. There have been a few articles about MINI stuff in the past.

I'm not sure yet if I will be available that weekend or not. Sounds fun, of course. Any more details? Costs?
