What's that supposed to mean? I'm really proud of them. I think that Olie faced fewer goals then he has been in the past couple of games. There was a Caps offsides that should have been called (blaringly obvious). I still think that officiating has to catch up to the new NHL. Zednick had an awesome night. I didn't watch the Rangers/Kings game who won? ![]() "Buy you a soda after the game?"

Because we've got a Caps fan here and a Flames fan here, and, you know... Oh, never mind! The Kings won. Whatever magic the Rangers had last year, they're having a hard time conjuring it up now. They're aren't awful, but they aren't that great either. Shanahanahanahanahan has a bucketload of goals, and Jagr is racking up points on assists for those goals which has put him in the points lead but covers up his own rather anemic goal scoring (ditto for Nylander), but they aren't really getting squat beyond them, and "King Henrik" Lundqvist is bottom-five in the league in both goals against average and save percentage. I do think they'll pull it together well enough to make the playoffs, but overall they still seem to be in that funk they slipped into late last season and into the playoffs... -Ricardo

Went in to the doc's for a two week look-see; my knee seems to be recovering a lot quicker than last time, and the damage seems to have spared the ACL. Besides a whole bunch of exercises to do to strenghen it (wall-sits, huh!!), he gave me the ok to start skating again in two weeks, and possibly playing again in four. Yippee! Aaaarrgh! I won't be like the other 'fans' in this city, who have been calling for Playfair's head since game two, and push the panic button just yet, but I think I will dig it out so it is close-by The Flames seem to have lost the thing that made them competitive even when they (supposedly) had less talent - their heart. Case in point, Phaneuf should have gone after Zednik for running into Kipper after he had scored; Zednik could have avoided the collision, but carried on through anyway. And Phaneuf turned and skated away. I know that bad penalties in close games are something that gives a coach fits, and maybe that is what Phaneuf was thinking, but at the same time you can't let the other team take liberties. Oh, and going back to the panic button; I don't know if you have heard the rumour L.A is willing to trade Conroy in exchange for some defence, but that is all anybody here needed to hear for the chorus to go up screaming that we re-acquire him. Granted, he had a great run in the playoffs '04, and was doing relatively well in L.A, but I don't think that will answer Calgary's goal scoring woes. He had 8 goals, 39 assists the last year he was in Calgary. I think Sutter needs to step into the dressing room and let loose with some of his renowned motivational 'speeches', before the season is on ice.

Yeah, I don't think Conroy is the answer. If you're going to trade for some offense, it would be nice to get a little more bang for your buck (14 games played, 0 goals, 3 assists). It's hard to fault Playfair for what's happening now given what he has to work with, Calgary's scoring woes have been well known for a long time. They finished right near the bottom of the league in goal scoring last season, and even the season before when they made it to the Cup finals their scoring was in the second half of the pack, nothing to write home about. For a team with that little scoring punch to succeed, they need fantastic defense and goaltending, and they need to work their asses off every minute of every game. They don't have the luxury of coasting or playing soft, that's where the coaching comes in. Maybe they need him to be more of a Sutter style hard-ass... -Ricardo

I've been quiet recently. I think that Zednick could have avoided the collision with Kipper but I think that it was his backup plan to plow into him. I didn't see a lot of offensive pressure put on by the flames (did they really concentrate on defense in the off season). I wasn't sure why it was the Phaneuf (I like that name) Ovechkin match up everyone's been waiting for. Phaneauf seems to be a powerhouse defensemen (in much the same way that Gonchar is (good at scoring goals at the blue line) but I didn't see much enforcing happening from him. I liked old time hockey goons (where did they go?) I think the next dog we get I'm gonna name Nittymaki. I think it's a great name for a dog. At the clinic I used to work at there was a black lab named Olie the goalie. I thought it was cute and it gave us something to talk about (other than the ailing dog). ![]() "Buy you a soda after the game?"

Kevin Weekes, Kevin Weekes Now I'm getting into the old team spirit again. Amazing that the Rangers had not played the Sharks in 2+ years. NHL used to have 6 teams. A little history lesson New York Rangers Official Web Site :: All-Time Roster - Lou*Fontinato Lawdy, Lawdy, the Cross I bear.

Back from a field trip to Boston to see the Bruins-Lightning game. Ugly goaltending, fluke goals, and enough sloppy defense to enough to drive a coach nuts. And good fun, of course. Lots of back and forth scoring to keep the fans interested, home crowd got a late goal to tie and an OT winner, so everyone went home happy. Plus I got to see three of my UVM alums (Perrin and St Louis for Tampa, Thomas for Boston). Didn't expect to see Thomas since the morning papers said Toivonen was getting the start, but after he stank up the joint to the tune of 5 goals on 21 shots, they put Thomas in. So that was fun... -Ricardo
