The folks I know who are involved in youth/junior hockey coaching say that there is simply a whole lot more complaining and dirty stickwork in girls'/womens' hockey, be it at the youth, high school, or college level. Don't know if it's some form of outdated paternalism (refs "going easy" on them and letting them get away with things that wouldn't be tolerated in a boys game "because they are girls") or what, but a lot of female players, having played in female only leagues, come out of the experience tending to be much more vocal in complaining (both to refs and opposing players) and much more fond of dirty stickwork, which becomes particularly evident when they play in a co-ed game. By "cultural" I mean the way they're taught to play/learn to play, the sort of behaviors they are allowed to get away with as they learn the game, etc. lead to players like this. I know some women (including the cute married one in my Monday night group) who don't like playing in women-only leagues for that very reason, they find that women-only leagues are far nastier and snarkier than co-ed/mens' leagues. Go figure. -Ricardo

The old-fashioned sexist notion that boys are always more competitive and cut-throat than girls was one of the first things to die when girls sports started to become more commonplace. There's still a learning curve going on, there's a definite difference between coaching girls and coaching boys and I think there's still a lot of progress to be made. -Ricardo

Of course it deserves to be framed and hung on the wall; It's a major award! The duties and privileges will be revealed over time, on a case by case basis. Duty number one is to not make the Grand Poobah's teams lose by watching them. Privilege number one is free haggis. Future duties and privileges will be revealed at a time and place of the Grand Poobah's choosing. -Ricardo

As evident in the sport of field hockey. There is a hard ball with hard sticks that you have to hit at some unfortunate soul standing in between the pipes. I always hit it as hard as I could, if they moved we scored if they didn't they got a big bruise. This is pretty much the philosophy I used when playing street hockey. After a while they learned to just leave me a lone. ![]() "Buy you a soda after the game?"

Ahhh I see so should I send you my Red Sox tickets? and what about the Futures at Fenway? Isn't there a chance that my juju could be passed onto the future of the Red Sox, or stay at the Park and the Sox will never win another game. My juju apparantly doesn't work on the Bruins, so I think we're O.K. there. So which teams should I watch? The tigers, the Yankees ![]() "Buy you a soda after the game?"

We have yet to see if your bad juju is transferable to locations or prospects. It's worth point out that when we went to the Sea Dogs game in Manchester, the Sea Dogs (Sox affiliate) did in fact lose. So if it's transferable to prospects, they are already spoiled, so there's no additional risk there. Not sure if you might in fact spoil the entire Park just by going to it. Sounds risky! But if you could fins a way to get the YES network and start watching Yankees games, that would be just grand. -Ricardo
