Brake Fluid

I was hoping on doing the advanced driving school at NHIS on April 7th. I read that I need to change my brake fluid first. Has anyone done this on their MINI? Do people use that "superblue" stuff that I read about? Anyone do it themselves

Anyone know what MINI of peabody charges?

Thanks.

I have an 05 MCS
So I figure I should change it before the school.

thanks

Joel

BTW. Jock , i put that Fomoto valve on my car, per your suggestion, when I did my own oil change a couple weeks ago...the thing is great. Its scary thinking it could get cut off, especially becuase the way it was build it has to face down, but I put a hose clamp on it to ensure it doesn't open....still a bit worried about a big rock cutting it off. But I guess it would have to be a huge rock.

thanks man

YouTube - Skyline R33 Brake Fluid Change

not super helpful, but it gives you an idea...
Important note, brake fluid is very corrosive and caustic, so clean stuff up quick (if there is a spill) and of course were protective gloves etc...

Revs, they're the #1 replacement for displacement
Boost, it's the #2 replacement for displacement

I run SuperBlue and it does help with the fade, I also have braided lines and D/S rotors.

Changing the fluid is easy. 2 people are needed though. one to pump the brakes and one to open and close bleeder valves.

Only tools needed are 10mm wrench, piece of tubing (to prevent spills) and something to catch fluid.

(The video just downloaded)

Only thing to add is the blue fluid makes it easier to see when all the old fluid is out, and I always re bleed the system after a short drive to double check.

It is a pretty simple process.

Good Luck and Have fun at the School

if you go over a rock big enough to damage that thing, it'll be the least of your worries.
It really takes alot to open it, I have no fear at all of inadvertant release( at least with the fumoto valve..............................)

out of my mind.........back in five minutes.

You'll need two people, so make sure the other person knows what they're doing and you'll be all set.

ATE Super Blue is a good bet for what fluid to use.

Why do I feel like I'm always going against the flow? I'd recommend against the blue fluid. The Motul (RBF600 is what I'm using) is also a very good fluid, and it doesn't instantly void your warranty when the service techs see it. Ok, perhaps "instantly void" is an overstatement, but it's a sure clue something's up. The Motul is the same color as stock. HMS has it for about $30 a litre.

Stock fluid is all you need for the ADSS Skills School on April 7. Just let MoP do their thing...

At the race track I've run both ATE Super Blue and Motul RBF600. Im in blalor's camp -- on a hot summer day with tempts in the 80s, RBF600 was much better at resisting fade.

Yup, I run RBF 600 also. But, if you don't need it, the Super Blue is cheaper and almost as good.
