After a chat with Gary, he says it also may be the steering knuckle.
Like I said, and contrary to most pump reports I've seen, it comes and goes mid-turn. And what I meant by the strange noises is that if the pump were not working, there should be no steering whine. I have plenty of normal steering whine. I just went out to the lot and was able to turn it back and forth no problem. And I obviously drove all the way back from VT yesterday, and to work today. It's not that there is NO power steering, it's that it is....weird.
I'll try to make a MOP appointment for friday (so much for my day off) if I am even fortunate enough to get an opening.
