| Yes, technically the signed form is a "should" and, in fact, you could even sign it yourself, but . . . And this is an important "but" . . . If you are a competent mechanic, do the inspection and sign off on it.. If you are not a competent mechanic, take the half hour to an hour at the shop to have the car checked out. You don't want to get to the class and find that your brake pads are too thin, for instance, and you either don't pass the visual inspection or you start hearing metal on metal and realize, "Oh, shoot, I've still got to drive home!" Now, the tech inspection on site won't catch everything and it's not meant to. Basically, it's a visual check of the MINI's mechanicals to see if they are in good shape. One track day a couple of years ago (not the same type of event as an ADSS, but bear with me), I blew the serpentine belt coming out of the bowl at NHIS. No way this would have been caught during the tech inspection. If you've never tracked your car, kept it in reasonably good condition, had competent mechanics like Pete E take care of it, then you have nothing to worry about. If you, yourself, are a competent mechanic, then you have nothing to worry about. Remember, this is all part of the learning experience. The amount of care you put into your MINI (or any other vehicle) is directly related to how well your MINI will take care of you. ![]() ![]() |
