Any Minis from MA or Southern NH?

Hi! I'm new to this forum. A couple of people from Mini.com suggested I try this site.
My fiance and I are moving to the MA/NH area this summer (provided our jobs come through!) and we're excited to jump right into things there. We're currently in Washington, DC and we're SO looking forward to starting a new life elsewhere.
I was just wondering what the Mini world it like up there. Actually anything you locals would like to share with this young, eager, mini loving couple would be very beneficial to us since we've only been up there once!
THANKS!

Howdy, Resa, glad you found your way over here. BethandLouis may be able to give you some tips, since they made that move recently. Welcome to MINI2!

welcome Resa. At the very top of this forum home page is a sticky about the MAMA club.

The Monadnock Area MINI Association - Home

Good info to be had there. I live on the northern coast of Mass where the Merrimack River comes out to form the Atlantic Ocean (Newburyport) . My sister lives in the chain bridge section of DC! Where are you thinking to relocate ? What kind of MINI do you have? Jock

out of my mind.........back in five minutes.

Hi Jock. Yes, it sounds like your sister lives not too far from us! My fiance and I aren't exactly sure where to move yet. We're hoping to head up there right after the wedding (which is in three weeks) to get a better feel for the area and hopefully have a realtor show us around. My fiance is really interested in Merrimack, NH but we're debating if that's too far from any cities or to where we will most likely work (Bedford, MA). We're trying not to live right in the middle of everything but we don't want to be rural either. Plus we'd like to live where there are people similar to us. Young, just starting out, professionals. It's difficult to say where that is from where we are right now though.
As for my mini, I have a 2006 manual hyper blue S with a black roof and black bonnet stripes. I LOVE it. When I first got it, there weren't many minis and we all waved to each other. But recently, everyone seems to be getting one here and if you wave to them, they look at you like you're crazy. But perhaps I am crazy for thinking I have a friend in someone just because we drive the same car!! haha So that's why I joined some mini boards! I miss the mini fanatic sub-culture that was present in the beginning of my adventure.
Nice to meet you!

Welcome aboard Resa!
There are Mini runs and charity events going on every month of the year around here. A really great group of people with MAMA and also OSMG. The big event is Mini's on Top, www.minisontop.com , on Father's day weekend. We should have north of 250 Mini's up in NH for a run up Mt. Washington and a weekend of fun. Last year we raised about $17K for the make a wish foundation.

Also, remember that working in MA and living in NH means that you are paying a lot more in taxes than if you lived and worked in just MA. I've been there. The NH house prices are cheaper but the school taxes were 50% higher than MA. Also, if you work in MA then you will pay MA income taxes for the days that you work in MA. If you travel alot or work three days a week from home then it's not too bad, but if you plan to work everyday in Bedford and live in NH then you'll get stung. Look west of bedford out near Littleton, Ayer, Boxboro or even Hudson and you'll find some nice houses without a difficult commute.

Looking forward to meeting you.

TiNY - 2005 BEP/W MCS R84's, R-Speed Strut Brace, R-Speed Sway bar, CAI, 'Ghost' stripes, more to come!

Thanks for the info dracmanf. We're definitely looking at the whole tax situation. We're still trying to determine what's best. We know that we defintely can't afford as much house in NH as we can in MA but from what we have found out, we'd be paying way more in taxes for all of our cars in MA than NH. So we're still doing all the math! As for the charity events, we're all about that!
See you when we finally make it up there!

Welcome, Resa.

Um, that's about all I have to add. I'm a new transplant to Nashua, and I work in Merrimack. I'm still learning the area, but I like it here and the MINI people rock. I know a couple of people who commute into Bedford, MA. It's doable (certainly better than Boston) but I think you'll be looking at at least an hour each way if you can't avoid peak traffic times. I did Nashua to Westboro for about four months which was about 45 minutes and 50 miles one-way. Now my commute is 10 minutes each way (or 30 if I get to work, realize I've forgotten my badge, and have to repeat the trip. Like today. *sigh*). I loooove my commute.

Good luck getting relocated!

If the wedding is in three weeks and you are coming up just after that you should come to MINIs On Top June 15,16, 17 and say hi! You'll meet some new friends
MA auto insurance is higher but also "no fault" so it makes up for it with all the soft MINI windshields we have to replace.

Welcome Resa!

I just got my MINI back in July and my bf loved my MINI and the MINI community even more that he bought his own in December! He works in Bedford and lives in Acton and loves the commute (all back roads). Acton or anywhere around that area is a good place to be: not too expensive, not too rural or urban, but still close enough to get to Boston.

You should definitely come up to MINIs on Top if you are in the area! Also, try to see about contacting KRIATION on here... that's the bf I was talking about... he might have some more input on the area.

Look forward to meeting your and your fiancee (spouse)!

~ Sheeb

Hey Resa, ignore this idiot. It's an alter ego...although the real guy is sometimes mistaken for an alter ego too.
