Sorry, I'll be lame and uninteresting instead. Trip postponed, but there's still too much work to do otherwise. Thanks, though. Next year, I promise!

NL minus 24 Hours!

Well, in less than 24 hours we'll have the big meet up in Portsmouth!

Please note! The State of NH has two liquor stores on Rt 95 (it's a short road but brings in lots of tolls and lottery ticket sales and liquor money).

We will be meeting in Portsmouth at 1:00 p.m. The store is basically just off the interchange for I95 and NH Rt 16:

PORTSMOUTH TRAFFIC CIRCLE
500 WOODBURY AVE
PORTSMOUTH NH 03801

If you're early and looking for food, there's a decent restaurant on the rotary (traffic circle) and more fast food places about 5 minutes north on Woodbury Ave.

Although the Liquor Store is having a Washington's Birthday sale, don't buy Screech until we get to Newfoundland!

UGH

I definitely won't be able to make Portsmouth tomorrow... and might not be able to make the trip now!

If by some miracle I can sign my house contract tomorrow, I should make it to Calais late Thurs/early Fri AM... but if its not ready till Friday... I'll miss the boat..

Pete, I'll call you or someone on the trip and let you know my status tomorrow..

Fortunately, it looks like the winter storm will be over by tomorrow, or at least we'll be a good 12 hours behind it in any case. It took me a while to dig out this afternoon, to get ready for my 5am departure.

Environment Canada:

But the big weather story Wednesday will be in the Maritimes, where a potentially brutal mix of snow, ice pellets, heavy rain and wind gusts topping 120 kilometres an hour – 140 km/h in the Wreckhouse area of southwestern Newfoundland – will move up from the eastern seaboard and merge with the system from Ontario.

In New Brunswick, the storm will be mostly snow, but in parts of Nova Scotia, the snow and wind will change to ice pellets and finally heavy rain – anywhere from 20 to 40 millimetres – as temperatures rise overnight from -7C to 8 degrees.

“This is a very significant event for the Maritimes,” Environment Canada meteorologist Geoff Coulson said.

“The system that moved through [Ontario] is going to re-energize itself now with moisture and energy from the Atlantic Ocean,” he said. At midday local time, the cloud shield associated with the Atlantic system stretched from the tip of Newfoundland all the way down to Florida, Mr. Coulson added.

“It is a very, very healthy system. ... It's just a massive area of cloud and precipitation.”

Solo again

Well, it looks like I'm solo again. I'm planning on driving a couple of hours tonight to get a jump on the trip to NH. Hope to see everyone at the Portsmouth meeting place.

We are on target to rendezvous at Portsmouth, NH at 13:00.

Oh, I also found a 2-ton Come-Along (after running around today to 3 Sears and one Home Depot, and sighting a MINI CLUBMAN too!)

That's some storm! We'll be a day or so behind it, fortunately!

A request

If anyone is picking up free state road maps along the way, pick up an extra one for me.

I collect the maps, but will be entering VT, NH and ME tomorrow on minor routes, which likely don't feature Visitor's Centres dishing out maps.

I have decided on my final route.

TomTom suggested it. It takes 30 minutes longer, but the mountains in NH look bigger than ME. TomTom never leads me astray...

Thanks for the thought Mikey. Why not join us next time?

My inverter died again. It just doesn't like the cold. Tested ok when on a warm day. I'll try to pick up a new one before meet up time this afternoon.

Well guys, the time has arrived. It's weird being on this end of the trip for a change. Wishing you all safe travels, clear skies, smooth seas (thank God you're not catching that ferry today, it's super windy!), fully cooked eggs, and many happy memories. Peter, you're going to have to take lots of pictures for me. Ross, remember to get obscure maps for me. Have a great time, with any luck, I'll be able to join you again next year.
