| Resident Panpsychist | One of the more interesting rules listed on the LeMons website concerns selling parts from the $500 car: So, suppose that we can find a car for $500 and need to put in another $200 in parts to make it competitive (excluding safety equipment, of course). If we can sell $200 in unneeded parts (radio, CD, seats, etc.), that will allow us to do the work and still comply with the $500 rule. However, I expect this would require sufficient documentation (bills of sale, etc.). Anyone know someone who is restoring a car and need bits and pieces of interior/exterior trim? Offline | That's right Theo. We can spend more than $500 and just eBay out the unnessary seats, interior bits, door panels, turn signals, glass, radio, etc. to get back below. More dreaming: 1983 AUSTIN MINI MAYFAIR SPARES/REPAIR/DONOR on eBay, also, Austin, Classic Cars, Cars, Parts Vehicles (end time 30-Mar-08 12:49:33 BST) Seemingly nothing in the rules would prevent us from spending a bit to ship a classic MINI over from the UK... |

| Resident Panpsychist | So, other than price and good running condition, what characteristics define a particularly advantageous LeMon's competition car? I'm talking about things like auto vs. manual, unibody vs. frame (truck), large vs. small. It seems like there may be quite a few cars that qualify for the 4200 lbs and under weight limit. Now whether you can find one is another story. Would a tank-like Mercedes/BMW present a better choice over a Ford Probe or classic Mini? Inquiring minds want to know. Also, I realize the LeMon must have a roll cage. So perhaps to keep costs down, we get a car that has an off-the-self, pre-fabbed roll cage available? Do we want to try to get a sponsor? A sponsor might defray the cost of the needed safety equipment and clothing that will be required. My neighbor owns a auto body shop...and then there's Julian at Sublime... Just rambling. | Rabid Motorer | I agree. If nothing else, it'd be fun to resurrect it. What's involved in dropping the tranny on this car? Will putting it on jack stands be sufficient, or will we need more ground clearance? (I'll be replacing the transmission on my Jeep this summer, but I'll struggle with too MUCH ground clearance when lowering and raising it...). |

Offline | Torn This 535i is also still available. Engine is overheating and she can be talked down to a lower price. We'd just cast off some interior bits to drop us below $500. This engine has twice the displacement of the 318i!! The 3 or the 5? BMW 1986 535I |
