Rumor has it they are going to race March 2nd, Sunday!! I get the email updates and they are shooting for 3/2 now.
What makes this so exciting is that my birthday is this Friday (yes, leap year day...) and I for one would think this race would be a great way to top off a birthday weekend.
I know you mentioned going, Richard... anyone else considering going? Looks and sounds like a lot of fun!
I can't commit yet -- it's likely that by Sunday I'll be on the way to Georgia to take Adam to the trailhead. I'm day-to-day until we nail down his schedule.
But anyone who can do this should jump on it -- it's a blast, and although it's a bit challenging to do well, it's not at all challenging to do.
Well, despite Richard's well intentioned advice, don't jump on it . . . Otherwise, you'll end up in the snowbanks just like the Subaru WRXs whose drivers forget (didn't know? where too dense?) that brakes don't work on ice when the tire has no grip!
That said, what a great way to celebrate a Leap Year birthday . . . by doing something once every four years.
I'm tempted . . . What the heck, the bumper's going to be replaced anyway . . .
Return to Hudson Bay 2009
3,000 miles and CDN$3,000 repair
$1/mile . . .
I've been watching it closely, well for three seasons now. I usually prefer to let them get the bugs out with the first one. That was almost this past weekend. I was really determined to go the last two seasons...but the weather never allowed for enough ice. I hope I can finally show up this year.
A word of advice -- you are likely to slide into the snowbanks around the course at least once. Make sure you get all the packed snow out of your wheels before you head home - it throws everything out of alignment on the highway.
Yeah, it was ok. Very disorganized, and I only got in three timed runs (one of which was a DNF that I should contest; I made it around, but required the help of the plow truck...). I'd do it again with friends. I'll have pics and a bit of a write-up tonight, hopefully. All that shoveling and pushing has made me one sore puppy this morning!
