Can I not come?

In the meantime - thanks Rick for another great MAMA event! We have more blueberries than we know what to do with (that's actually not true - bagged and in the freezer - we do know what to do) Got a couple a pies for tomorrows tasks and some syrup to do as well. Bought some blueberry cider - give a try later - Working on some beer now...

Before yesterday, I didn't even like blueberries. Now I'm converted. Weird. We made blueberry shortcake tonight. I wanted to make pancakes, but the milk put up a fight when I tried to take it of the fridge. I showed that jug.

Chocolate Raspberry Torte with Chocolate Ganache Topping

10 1/3 ounces dark bitterweet chocolate (Swiss or Belgian preferred)
10 1/3 ounces butter
5 large eggs
2/3 cup sugar
2/3 cup heavy cream
1 pint fresh raspberries

Ganache:
5 1/2 ounces dark bittersweet chocolate -- shaved
1/2 cup heavy cream

Melt chocolate in a double boiler over simmering water.

When melted, stir in butter until smooth.

Remove from heat, cool slightly.

Purée raspberries in a blender and strain, until you have 2/3 cup of purée.

Combine eggs, sugar, cream, and raspberry purée in mixer and beat until doubled in volume.

Add chocolate and blend well.

Pour into a 9" cake pan, bottom covered with greased and floured parchment paper.

Bake at 350º F for 1 hour and 20 minutes in a water bath. CHECK WATER LEVEL FREQUENTLY!

Cool completely before topping with ganache.

Ganache:

Bring cream to a boil in a small saucepan.

Add shaved chocolate and stir until smooth.

Cool slightly until thickened and pour over torte.

Smooth top and sides.

Outstanding day, topped with Kimball's ice cream and then a generous portion of blueberry pie with vanilla ice cream . . .

Great to see folks, enjoying your company, the berries and that wonderful view of Mount Monadnock!

Return to Hudson Bay 2010 (and 2011) . . . not

A fantastic day made all the better by not having to see Baker. Many thanks to Rick and Laurie for putting this together once again. I'm having blueberries in my oatmeal as we speak. They'll give me strength to kick Armen's ass the next time I see him........
