"If you grew up in New England, you probably remember the joy you felt when the word “Nor’easter” was mentioned in the forecast. You could bet your one-piece snowsuit you’d be out of school for at least a day, maybe more.
"Such was the case in New Hampshire last week. In a 24-hour period from Sunday to Monday, the summit received an impressive 20.5 inches of snow, with nearly 9 inches falling in the valley (plenty to close area schools). This single Nor’easter alone delivered half the month’s total precipitation on the mountain, three-quarters of which fell in one week from February 18-25. The summit staff celebrated with some off-piste sledding, and skiers and snowboarders throughout the region rejoiced in this latest winter delivery.
"Winter lovers will be glad to know that March is historically the snowiest month of winter, with a monthly average of 54.1” falling on Mount Washington. So don’t put those skis away yet—I’m sure Mother Nature’s got a few more storms up her sleeve."

If I remember correctly, MINIsOnTop 2005 (?) featured a visible snow-pack in the shadows of Mt. Jefferson's summit! In fact, I met a hiker coming back from Mt. Jefferson after Telemarking on the snow-pack. All this in mid-June.

I know when Pam and I went hiking in '07 we ran into people on the trails with skis on their backs. They said that in the shadows there are large patches of snow. This is a shot taken at Tuckerman's Ravine in mid-July!

Does anyone reading this have a kite aerial photography rig? I know wilsonrabbit (Sarah) does, but I don't know if she'll be coming to MoT. Seems to me that maybe Josh has done some KAP stuff. I'm going to try to get into that this year (egads, yet another project?!), but since I still have scars from the last time I flew a kite, I have some basic airmanship to master, first. I think we could have some killer shots from the top of the mountain, if the wind isn't too strong (and if you can see your hand in front of your face).
Hello all veteran MOTer’s and those joining the fun for the first time this year!! I am Bob Cahill and I would like to introduce myself as this years host for the MOT CD Contest. Last year my son (Richard) and I had a great time participating in the CD contest, which Richard actually won! As a result we are pleased to be able to host this years CD theme and judging.
This year’s theme will be: “Superhero”, as we all know how much we feel like a Superhero once getting up and down Mt. Washington each year! This is your chance to put together 5 songs that represent what you feel would be your superhero soundtrack, with your Mini as your personal Superhero ‘Mini-mobile’. Entries are limited to one CD with a maximum of 5 tracks. Judging will be based on the first five tracks on the CD only and we will be judging on originality, vigor and get-up-and-go motoring ability of your soundtrack. So don your capes, pull up those tights, strap on your utility belts and make those song selections count!
All contest entries should be mailed to:
