| MINI2 Regular | The CT Cart people are very nice and give some good lessons for first time AutoX people. I did it last year and it was fun. I don't think I'll do it in April but if there is going to be a pile of Mini's I will show up and be a spectator! Everything is better with monkeys! |

Offline | AutoX PM me or just post here if you plan on participating in, or attending the April 13th CART autocross in Bristol. As far as I can tell we can't register online. Sign up is at the event from 8-9 a.m., I assume the first one of the year is going to fill up so I think we should be there by about 8:30. I have a friend with an MCS who isn't a member here (don't ask, I don't know) who will be attending so that is two confirmed. I am psyched. -CT ![]() MCS Pure Silver/Black Illegitimi non carborundum. |

Offline | Like I said this is my first one, but I would assume that a lesson consists of you driving with an instructor riding shotgun and telling you the lines of the course and giving general, track-out-double-clutch-track-in-power-out advice. According to the link for autocross info above, novices get a walk through before the drivers' meeting and an instructor rides with them on their first go at it. | MINI2 Regular | I just got the CART newsletter and postcard in the mail. It said the April event was for drivers only, "No spectators". So I am not sure I will show up. Not that I'd get roughed up/tossed out but I don't want to cause any problems for other MINI drivers! [Plus I just found out I have to work] For the new drivers, I know even without an official 'lesson' you can ask for assistance from one of the other drivers. I had a CART regular (and my boating instructor) go around the course with me twice and it helped a ton. In fact my last run I did without him, and I went off course :-) -Nick Everything is better with monkeys! |

Offline | Everything truly is better with monkies. Do you remember that Superbowl commercial from a few years back with the two people and the chimp? OK, so chimps are apes technically but you know what I mean. MCS Pure Silver/Black Illegitimi non carborundum. |

Offline | It's a possibility if you get desperate, I only have one helmet and I don't have a very big head, about 7-3/8. It's not a bad investment to make to buy one, I got mine for about $160 on eBay. To tell you the truth, sharing head-sweat with somebody I don't know kind of freaks me out. Please don't take this personally. It just gets hot inside there. -CT MCS Pure Silver/Black Illegitimi non carborundum. |

| Summer Splasher | Right - I can sure understand that . . . I raced a classic Mini in SCCA for 12 years........guess I'll just bite the bullet, suck it up and buy another new helmet! Looking forward to this event - haven't run an autocross in, oh, probably 22 years! Hope I haven't lost my touch! We'll find out! |

Offline | As it was beautiful yesterday I decided to take a drive and look for some good roads. As I was motoring I found a stretch of narrow, hilly twisties that goes on for MILES. It starts in Shelton and goes all the way through Huntington and it is FUN! I say we have a "run" sometime in the near future on this stretch. I am just trying to come up with some meeting/ending places that are in a reasonable proximity and would be fun. I will start a seperate thread on this sometime soon... Offline | I almost did out by Jones Tree Farm but I was taking it (fairly) easy as it was a sunday afternoon, there might be kids outside, and I didn't know the road that well. You should have seen how excited I got when I finally realized where the heck I was. The first thing that went through my head was "This would be the sh** for a Mini event." I had driven down the beginning in Shelton a few times but I always turned around at the first stop sign; this time I just went, "What's up there..." at every stop sign and turn until I came out at the farm and got all pumped. I retraced my route back to see if I could do it (and I did no problem) but got a little bold on one decreasing radius downhiller and hung the back out a little on some sand. No problem though, I was amazed at home progressively, if quickly, oversteer announces itself and how easy it is to catch the car. I practiced a lot on snow but never had it happen on asphalt. That's actually how I wrecked my Integra GSR. The back end just snapped out on that with no warning. I need some sticky tires on my Mini. I think I'll keep the runflats for winter use. Anyway, does this sound like the road you are thinking of? It goes by the resevoir in shelton breifly in the beginning. How excited were you when you drove it the first time? Offline | I think that may have been one of the roads. Unlike you, I had no solid idea of where i was. Could not have traced my way back (or forward) for that matter. If I remember correctly we found 302 eventually, and that was way to the north. Yeah. The highpoint of excitement was hitting a hill on a near one-laner and not coming down for quite a bit. ![]() I know what you mean about that understeer. Last weekend searching some roads for the meet, I lost the tail pretty suddenly on some sandy turn, but we came about just as easily. I've also oversteered the MINI up a wooded embankment. So... ![]() NY/NE Mod |

Offline | Jumps! Bumps! Lumps! I'm sure you're just making sure the Mini doesn't forget its rally roots right? Right. Do you have any battle scars from your airborne excursion or did the suspension absorb it? I get the feeling you are a little more crazy than I am, driving fast enough to get airborne on a road you have never been on before, and I skydive! Tell me you're going to the autoX this sunday in Bristol. MCS Pure Silver/Black Illegitimi non carborundum. |

Offline | The plastic skidplate scraped a bit. Rather loudly. You'd be surprised how fast you don't need to get air on that road. I'm an excellent driver ![]() I fear pylons. What's the dirt on the beginner's class? Like how much? Bristol is kinda far. Oh and all importantly- are helmets necessary for the beginners class? Heard of hill-jumping? ![]() NY/NE Mod |

Offline | We need some sort of god-sized hair dryer for the state of CT if the conditions are to be acceptable this sunday I think. But I hold out hope. Cost of racing should be in the first page link. MCS Pure Silver/Black Illegitimi non carborundum. |
