Recommendations for stereo upgrade near Boston

Can anyone with experience of aftermarket stereo work on their MINI recommend somewhere to go ... I am thinking of replacing the HK.
Thanks.

You could contact Boston Acoustics Car Audio Department. Their equipment is top of the line, and you may be able to work in an installation from them as well. Check out www.bostonacoustics.com

I hate being the son of a MINI owner because that just makes me want my own even more.

Cool HK STEREO

Hi,
May I ask why you are considering replacing the HK? I have chosen that as an add-on for my MINI S.......for which I have been waiting a million years.

Nancy,
I am disappointed by the "front sound stage" setup of the HK - there is little to no mid & high frequencies from the rear speakers, only bass.
If you like your stereo set up that way, then you will be fine - I recommend you listen to a system.

Personally, I would not have included the HK if I had heard it first.

Ian - Rich's Car Tunes (http://www.cartunes.com) in Watertown has an excellent reputation. I remember attending a BMW Club tech session there some years back and being impressed with the quality of installations I saw...

Ian --

Did you see the thread and external article on the HK performance and how to modify its "front sound stage" behaviors? At http://www.mini2.com/forum/showthread/t-29831.html

Yes I did ... I tried the "spacial" mode and it does bring more frequencies to the rear speakers but it makes the stereo sound really "cheap" too! Not quite sure what the effect is, but it is not nice.

Ian- What was the end result of your stereo search? Even those of us without the HK may be interested in improving sound within our close confines. Thanks. John

John,
I have a Boston Acoustics GT42 amp on order - 4x100W and very slim so hoping it will fit well in the bottom of the boot.
Putting MB Quart reference speakers in all four locations, and going with a Kenwood HU so I can install a keg as well (MP3 hard disk storage).

Just ran new speaker wires out of the doors this week (what a job!) so I can leave the stock wiring untouched.

Hopefully it will all be done by June 21

Nice job! I think it IS the wiring hassles that stop me at this point but I know you will like the BA amp.
