Offline | Well Summers's coming and I'll soon be spending time galore out on the utterly disreputable east end. Screw that. You set something up on a sunday and I will so be there (to crash if you enforce it so strongly). If you don't happen to get around to it, I will. And I'll make you drive all the way out to Montauk in September! Actually not a bad idea at all. Really just want to tell you it's three hours from here to Montauk on a clear night. Since it is doubtful any of you are located so far out, you might be interested in joining Mr. Stone's journey to the Sunday, May 18th New Milford meet. Nuf said. Cheers! GMINI ![]() NY/NE Mod |

Offline | Been away from LI for many years but I have a hankering to revisit old haunts (I was a waiter at the Maidstone Club, EH one summer eons ago as a kid). GMINI, do you take the brige or a ferry and which route is best if coming down I-91? Memories of Bridgehampton almost as vivid as Lime Rock. So, plan on, Islanders. MINIs at Montauk very early on a Sunday AM, hmmm? Lawdy, Lawdy, the Cross I bear. |

Offline | How to Invade Long Island from the North The best route to Montauk in the summer is totally nocturnal. Never done the ferry, though. From 91 on it's all 4 lanes - 84-684-Hutch(twisty)-Cross Bronx-Throggs Neck-Cross Island (fun at night)-Southern State (twisty)-to 27E (4 to 2 Lanes)-The End. Or you can go Cross Island to 495E (straight & wide) to Manorville Road, 111 to 27E. In the Fall, anytime is fine, avoiding city in rush hour, of course. ![]() NY/NE Mod Last edited by GMINI : May 5th, 2003 at 10:08 PM. |

Offline | I just got back last night from Greenport. Going out it took us 2 1/2 hours from Norwalk, CT to Riverhead. We left at about 8pm, and the traffic was clear! we did the Merrit-Hutch-CrossIsland-495E route. The way back we took rt25 to Port jeff and took the Ferry over. I actually enjoy taking the ferry sometimes, its not really faster, but it gives you a nice break, and I like avoiding the congestion on the crossisland-495 area, not to mention the potholes! 02 Cooper Silk Green/white roof. |

Offline | GMINI, You really know the roads on LI very well, I like the idea of a trip to the end of the island in September, that would be a good time when all the Summer folks have gone and the roads are once more clear of the city folks. Ther are a couple of good roads once you get past manorville, say a run from manorville through the potato fields all the way to the North point great road to let it all out on. Thats wher I ride CBR1000 in early fall no trafic and no cops. See you on the 18th and if any other LI'ers want to convoy just reply to this post. |
