Labor Day Mini Road Rally to benefit MDA

I figured I'd start this one off early:

I'd like to propose a road rally on Labor Day (Sep. 8th) to benefit MDA. We would start in Hartford and travel through the state, some straight roads but mostly twisty little ones. We would stop at any activity centers that MDA is running, and eventually end up at the Mohegan Sun casino.

An alternate route would be to run backwards from Mohegan Sun to Hartford, since another club usually does the Hartford to Mohegan Sun route that day.

Each person would have to raise an entry fee-- we can have a flat fee or pledge collection (either individual pledges or a "by the mile" pledge). The advantage of the pledge collection would be incentives for top fundraisers (like goodies from Mini, if we can get them to donate).

A good goal for the event would be $1500, which would pretty much guarantee us a check presentation. Raising $3000 and we could probably get two (one in Hartford and one in Uncasville).

So, anybody interested? Ideas, ideas, ideas...

We have to raise $3k each? Or $3k total? I don't think I know enough people to raise $3k myself. :-)

What is the tie to Mohegan Sun?

I think in either direction there are some great roads to be used, avoiding 84 and highways.

The objective would be to raise $3000 as a group, although if someone felt they could raise $3000 by themselves I would be all for it (grin).

We could possibly get matching donations from a sponsor, but we would have to work it out with the MDA office. Getting the Mini dealers to kick in something would be nice, even if it was only freebies (shirts, posters, pins).

I'll be calling the MDA office this week to talk to the district manager about this. I'll make her a formal proposal if she feels this may work.

PS I would not be able to participate in this event myself-- at least not in the rally part. I manage the East Haven pledge center for the telethon, something I've done since college.
