Offline | Good news here..... Just picked up the donation from IdleGear.co.uk at the Post Office, Kev Beck came through in a magnificent way.3 sets of solid color bonnet stripes, assorted colors. 2 sets full checkered tops, one white, one black. 3 sets of John Cooper signature graphics. And some other stuff.....but it's mine and it's a secret. Allof it looks first quality as expected. I'm still astounded by his generosity. But you're really gonna love this: Just got a call from my sister out in Oklahoma. Says to me "Guess where I am?". She's at Jackie Cooper MINI in Edmund Oklahoma. She says there's 30 MINIs on the lot, and she's planning on taking one home tonight. Called me for advice on options etc. Looks like she wants a MINI, not an S. Possibly yellow with a white top. I say to her "let me talk to a salesman". She says "No one has approached me, what's up with that?". I say "Hell, it's a MINI dealership, what do you expect?". So anyway, got off the phone. Immediately called the dealership, asked for the sales manager. Got Chris on the phone. "Chris, hi my name's Jeff Baker, I live in Massachusetts, I own a MINI. and my sister is in your showroom right now. She wants one, treat her like royalty". Chris says "We do that with all of our customers". I say "No, this is different, this is my sister........" Then I tell Chris to write down www.minisontop.com......give him a quick blurb on the activities. Then tell him if there is a sale I expect a donation form their dealership. Chris says "I think we'll be able to do that...". Then he says "She's standing right here in front of me". I say "Don't tell her I called". And best of all, she may arrange to be here in June for MINIs on Top. And she'll win the most traveled for MOT, unless Buz shows. Will there be a prize for the second most traveled MINI? I assure you, she's nothing like me. She's wicked cool. Last edited by bakerjc : Mar 26th, 2004 at 11:03 PM. |

Offline | It's official: LY/B, sport seats, on-board computer, cruise, 3 spoke fancy steering wheel, 15" 8 spokes, chrome. Otherwise pretty much a base Cooper. Money's down, will be coming in on a new shipment expected in 4 - 5 days. My sister is excited, her husband is excited, but their youngest now 11 is most excited. He knows it's his in 5 years. Oh yeah. I told the salesman I expect a donation. He seemed willing...... |

Offline | Ducttape, we have read it all, but not in one sitting..! We've been blathering here from the start. There was a long time before we had an off-topic thread, and we still go off topic here a lot - like into discussions about the length of the thread...! Seriously though, do you think the length of this thread puts people off joining..? What's the general consensus - should we re-title this thread and let it become a general banter thread with a slight MOT theme and make a new thread where only stuff about MOT is posted..? With only a few months to go now, we may be able to keep mostly on topic..! |

Offline | bakerjc, I'm certain you are on the phone with your sister as she describes her glee. Congratulations to her and to you for making sure she treated like the royals of royalty. My sat nav gives the shortest distance to Gorham as 2693 miles. I plan to make it an adventure, or as I prefer to say an 'oddventure', stopping to check out all the two headed snakes and cows, and bright shiny objects. There's a book in this somewhere or least an art exhibition. My goodness, this has just become a business trip. Now I must convince my sweetie to abandon her office for this oddventure. Offline | [quote=jcsinnh] I was thinking of you when she told me she settled on the LY/B......had I ordered one I probably would have gone for that scheme. Finding a good old classic Chili Red / White, just like the old Mini I used to get my hands on, and available on the spot at MoP somehow changed my preferences. If I was to special order another there's a good chance it would be the same CR/W combo. But lets get back to the main topic. What was the main topic again? |

Offline | Probably a good idea.....desticky and rename this thread "MOT OT+B", then sticky a new thread "MINIsOnTop June 19th 2004". Do some heavy moderation on the new thread, let this thread after deprecation run free. Stickies have turned into a funny thing. It appears it's possible to get a thread stickied a year in advance of the actual event. Is this needed? Should there be a time frame guideline instituted? Shall we hold a coup, find out where Paul Mullet lives, send over a couple of strongarms? With correct persuasion I'm sure he'll see things my way............ |
