Pardon this appallingly on-topic post, but here's a quick recap for those new to the fold who came straight to the latest post rather than going to page one (I should mention that the note below incorporates some of CCMs lovely verbal stylings along with my own, lest I be accused of plagiarism):
This thread is all about
MOT (MINIs On Top) 2004, the sequel to last year's highly successful premiere edition of MINIs On Top. The date is
Saturday June 19 2004. We have the Mount Washington Auto Road reserved for a MINIs ONLY drive up to the top to watch the sunset.
This year's event will be in two stages. You are welcome to attend both or just one portion of the event (although if you attend just one part, the one part really ought to be the second part, or else we will visit you in the small hours of the night and throw a badger up your nightshirt).
---------------------------
Stage 1 will begin at sunrise at the Acadia National Park on the Maine seacoast. Upon greeting the sunrise there will be a mad dash westward to Mount Washington. We'll then join Stage 2 participants (see below).
---------------------------
Stage 2 will duplicate MOT 2003. It will begin around 10:30-11:00 a.m. in the parking lot of Loon Mountain in Lincoln, NH., then on to the Kanc for a drive around the area and a picnic lunch. After that there will be a little break in the action so you can go on your merry way for whatever you choose (check in to the hotel, hose down the MINI, hose down the passengers, etc.).
After that, in later afternoon we will be meeting at the lodge at the base of Mt. Washington for a catered BBQ dinner, along with awards (longest distance driven to attend, most bugs on grill, etc.), announcements, a CD contest (see the site for details), and of course the ascent up the hill. Last year, we got up to the top with something like 45 minutes to climb around and take pictures before the sun dipped below the horizon. By my sundial, that ought to happen around 8:30pm on the night in question.
Just after the sun goes down, we start heading back down the hill (don't worry, you won't be going down the mountain in pitch dark), and those of us staying overnight head on to gather in Gorham (one of our members will be performing at the Town & Country in Gorham that night). I'd recommend booking a hotel room in advance, I booked late last year and ended up in a room that looked like it had just materialized out of a time-warp from 1962. We have a block of rooms booked at the Town & Country, although I hear they are going fast.
---------------------------
There are costs associated with this event (beyond the accomodations, which you must arrange yourself). Catered BBQ fees, auto road fees, t-shirts, commemorative stickers, etc. You can just do the ascent, or you can buy in for the BBQ as well, or you can go whole-hog and get enough t-shirts and window stickers for your entire neighborhood. Pricing, details, and the registration form are available at the website.
The website is
www.minisontop.com, all the important stuff will be posted there in case you can't keep up with rabble who frequent this thread. If you would like to be added to the MOT email list please email CapeCodMINI at:

Have fun and happy motoring...
