I know I might be speaking heresy, since the eventual size of the previous year's MOT thread was a source of pride to many (1423 posts), and this year's thread appears likely to crush last year's like a bug (811 and counting), but perhaps a change is in order. My humble suggestion(s):

1) Create a new "sticky" thread which is limited to actual posts about the event itself, a repository for pertinent news, so that a person (be they a new and interested party or just a less frequent current participant) could have a somewhat more concise place to go to check for info and updates.

2) Given the highly conversational nature of this thread and it's tendency to meander miles off topic for pages at a time, perhaps we should de-sticky this thread from the top of the board, let it rise and fall with the tide. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy the thread and understand how/why it got to be this way, but let's realize that it's still seven more months until the actual event, and by the time we get to spring and some poor newbie schlep stumbles in here and is interested in the event, they'll likely have a couple thousand posts of amusing images, obscure in-jokes, and an assortment of cuts, digs, barbs, and swipes to plow through in order to figure out what's going on.

Makes sense, no? So who's got that moderator mojo? Make it so...

Makes sense... especially to those of us who are not so "tied" to the actual formation of the event... either by time or distance. I know that when I'm able to check the thread for information... sometimes it's difficult having to read all the posts. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy listening to to the banter and tearing of innocent flesh as much as the next guy...

Thanks for all you do...

I agree somewhat with ol' MG Boy. As I suggested before, we should have frequent referrals to www.minisontop.com for the hard facts. We can continue to have fun here but stuff completely unrelated to MOT should go to OT and Banter, like the fun links, cartoons, etc.

Hashing out details of MOT is fine. The results end up here and the website but there is way too much fluff, in my opinion.

I rarely go back to the table of contents page for NY/NE social, so,for me, stickies don't mean too much. That's just me.

I suggest we all slow down and enjoy the craziness of the holidays and see what we've got come January.

Have a great Thanksgiving all!

PS I am probably the most guilty of all when it comes to fluffy inanities

At the risk of sounding somewhat ignorant, what is wrong with sticky thread? I like sticky thread. Have you ever seen one of those taffy puller things? I think they are called crystalline elasterfermatistcal trasmogrifiers(CET).

Pets? If pets are allowed then I want to bring my Siamese fighting fish and our ducks. You will really like the ducks. They are a scream.

Yes bring the ducks.

MGB Boy. Make a new thread. PM me. I'll swap em.
Although I am wary of two (M)OTish threads being born where there was but one. potentially very confusing. Last year Steve requested a locked thread with updated pertinent MOT info be stuck. It's proper to do so now. Someone who feels like updating the post would need to be the one to create it. obv.

So who's game??

And I can see it now:

"Hey Ian, what time do we meet at Loon?"
"Bill, I posted that info already"
" Sorry, was that on MOT04, MOT04(subscript 1), sticky MOT?"
"Blimey, I can't remember where I put it"

Somewhere there's a recipe for Manifold Duckling. Does anyone know where I can find it?

Look for a copy of "Manifest Destiny: The One, The Only Guide to Cooking on Your Car Engine" or adapt the following:

2-3 lbs roast
Good Seasons salad dressing mix or mushroom soup, dry
salt & pepper
1. Start with a 2- to 3-pound roast, the flatter the better.
2. Season with dry Good Seasons Salad Dressing mix or dry mushroom soup, salt and pepper or any way you season a roast before roasting.
3. Double or triple wrap in heavy-duty aluminum foil, crimping on sides so liquid will not leak when you turn the roast. Place on or against the flat part of exhaust manifold or against hot part of engine block.
4. Drive five to six hours.
5. Turn once halfway to destination.
6. You will arrive with a tender, juicy roast, ready to eat, and you will enjoy the smells of a home-cooked meal en route.

Note: This will not work on all vehicles, only those with appropriate engine design.

I thought the idea of www.MINIsOnTop.com was to provide a non-confusing point of contact for people ...
Seems to me if we make sure that is updated regularly, and add reference to it on page 1 of this thread, then all should be well?

That is what I envisioned www.minisontop.com to be as well. This thread can live on to hash out all the details and once a decision has been made on something, I can update the web site.

Might make sense to also keep the Post #1 on this thread updated/edited as things progress, with a disclaimer that further perusal of said thread could cause brain injury. Then a pointer to www.minisontop.com there also. It's been done like that on other threads.

Sooner or later the minisontop site will take precedence, once more people are aware of the service it could provide for links to hotels, motels, driving directions, costs, etc.

Seems like the best way out to me. Keeps the best of both worlds.

Have a fine and safe Thanksgiving all. I've often said that, at MOT, we met 100+ strangers and left with that many good friends. For that and all the fun, I am most thankful.
