Offline | leaf peeping MINIs - Northern Vermont fall foliage run Just trying to get a sense of if this would work for now. I want to get a bunch of New England / New York MINI owners to come to northern Vermont instead of me heading south all the time. ![]() So, how about a fall foliage thing? The problems will be lodging - everything is very booked and expensive during foliage season, and the British Invasion in Stowe is September 18-21, so a bunch of MINI owners may be headed up in the early fall already. That weekend would probably have been the one I would have chosen. Earlier than that and there isn't much color yet. Later than that and it's peak season, so peak crowds and peak prices. We could go for mid October and look at a lot of brown leaves. ![]() So, should I just piggy back some drives on the British Invasion weekend? Choose another weekend for some motoring and looking at leaves? If it does turn out to be another weekend (late September or early October), I propose having the bustling metropolis of Burlington being the "home base" and have some drives on a Saturday. An early morning "coffee substitute" drive, a late morning drive to a lunch spot, and a sunset drive perhaps. Let me know if it's worth persuing or if I should just focus my energies on the British Invasion weekend... British Invasion thread here on mini2 |

| heterochromic & loving it | Yeah, everybody come up here for once! The only problem with foliage is that you just don't know when it's going to be good. We had a pretty warm autumn last year, and foliage didn't start to peak in the mountains until early October and later in the valley (I recall taking some great photos in Stowe the weekend of October 5-6 last year). Other years you get a couple cold snaps and it's all over quick. It's really a roll of the dice, so you're best off just pickiung a date and hoping for the best... -Ricardo |

Offline | Ricardo - right; as you say who knows when/if the foliage will be good. So we can do a very short notice event "hey guys, you should see the trees today" ... or we piggyback on something like British Invasion so that at least there is something to do. I vote for the second ... Jason, what about that? |

| Expect Anything Else? | Since Saturday at the British Invasion is what its most about...how about a MINI trip on Sunday prior to everyone heading home. Check out of the hotels and head for a 1-2 hour drive along some of the Vermontian roads. All the vermonters must know a close and good route, maybe something down the state heading back to the Mass, Conn, NH route. I would be up for it!!!! 2003 DS/DS MCS |

Offline | I actually don't know too many good runs that actually go anywhere I'm always going around in a circle, after all.I like the idea of a Sunday run after the British Invasion. I also like the idea of a short(er) notice "how about next weekend?" run. Of course, that will make overnighting almost impossible for those who don't want to do it as a day trip - hence Ricardo's "just pick a weekend and go with it" comments. Chances are it will at least be cloudy if not raining anyway. ![]() Keep the comments / ideas coming and I (and anyone else who wants to help) will come up with something. |

Offline | I would never be able to make it, from here in Ohio (work), but I'ver been to Vermont... the leaves always look good, spring, summer, fall... and even winter. Love your state! | Back... | I had surgery a few weeks ago to remove the "bump" in my chest. I had the hernia removed and have been out of action for a while. Feeling much better now and getting back in the swing of things. The surgery went ok, the worst part was worrying about my Mini (Couldn't drive for a week after the surgery), I was afraid my mother might take it for a ride... Winslow :Green: This space for Rent |

Offline | Big mouth. I think John knows every beer hall in New England. Old age has its benefits, I guess. LW, Glad you are recuperating OK. Not driving bites doesn't it? I had spinal surgery in June 2002 and had a 13 week recuperation period so I know where you're coming from, bro. The drugs were awesome for a short while, but after a couple of weeks I looked and felt like Ozzy shuffling around As they say "get well soon."
