I've a serious crush on the Mini Cooper. Every time one goes by my heart skips a beat. But my practical stodgy side keeps telling me that buying a car needs to be a decision of the head, not the heart. So I decided to resolve the issue by renting a mini for a week or so to convince myself that buying one wouldn't be a mistake.

I was sure one of the luxury car rental places near Boston would have Minis -- but no. So far web searches show nothing in NYC, Boston, Philly. The closest possibility is is Toronto.

Any leads? (I supposed I could take a week's vacation to Florida, CA, or Texas. . . )

Update: Looks like the Boston ZipCar may be my best option; but not giving up on a rental out of NYC on my next business trip -- but still haven't found a rental place. MiniCoopers available in LA, but not in San Diego, where I was visiting in-laws last week.

I don't remember the name but I remember someone mentioning a place in LA.

As far as I know, they have a PS/Black MCS when I used to live near one of their rental locations. They may very well have a fleet of them now but I am not sure.

Have a chat with Mini, and see if they'll do a 24hr test drive, or rent one out to you - ie, like one of their courtesy cars.
