LET'S GO OVER THE PARK - Saturday & Sunday September 13th and 14th, 2003
Ladies and Gentlemen,
It's on and we're going for it!! The Mini Club Of Lake Placid are proud to host the 1st Annual MINI rally and Fall “Mini” Break, bang smack in the middle of the Adirondack Park in upstate New York. The town is North Elba, the village Lake Placid. Rich with Olympic history and loved by all who visit, live and drive here. All roads and towns on the way to Lake Placid are yours to explore but with everything that the region has to offer, you'll be having larger than mini fun while you are here!!
The website www.letsgooverthepark.com is being created as we speak to give you more details of what's going to happen while you're here. The host motel is The Wildwood On The Lake, The Whiteface Scottish Highland Festival runs both days, leaves will be changing, and a climb to the top of Whiteface Mountain!
I'll be posting pictures, maps, rooms rates and anything else you might need asap coz it's only a month away. Tell your friends, tell your dealer, we'll get together on the Olympic Oval around 10am on Saturday morning, then I have to run coach my soccer team (you can keep chatting or come watch the girls play) then in the afternoon we'll do the climb up Whiteface. Sunday a cruise to a few corners of the Adirondacks before we head home!!
Questions? I'm sure you have many but all will be answered on the website. In the meantime, block the dates!
I apologize for my absence from the Minis On Top where I'd hoped to meet many of you, but when your mini's in the shop you look silly in a rental!!
So who's up for it? Set the chat room alight, we need to spread the word!
I just wanted to add....Check out the photo gallery. I've been unable to get the picture into the text of this message but I'm not the smartest MINI2 user!! Just incase you thought we were a one car club!!! Yes we're all red with white roofs, all S's, separated at birth but reunited in Lake Placid!
As the event draws closer and plans are finalized, for those of you that have never attended a Mini Rally, this event is social gathering for people who love MINIs. It is meant to be fun – not competition or challenge. If you really want to test the performance of your MINI you should attend a Track Day type event. Lake Placid is a small town, the cops and troopers are friendly. However, pedestrians are plentiful and cross everywhere on Main Street, and Troop B's Head Quarters is 4 miles away!! I want Placid to welcome Minis back and not have to explain why I even thought it would be a great place to meet! I'd love to have everyone enjoy what the area has to offer. I'm still negotiating our fees for climbing Whiteface, to the festival, and it'll include ski jumps, 1932/1980 Winter Olympic Museum. Right now it could be $15 per person, great value for hours and hours of entertainment. Then there's the United States Luge Association. Former athletes and staff are mini owners and will be giving you guys and girls a chance to slide on the ice at their push start facility! We're going to try and please everyone with limited organized activities, a single drive together 7 miles up Whiteface.
Any comments you have will be more than welcome. I've invited the Canadian Mini Club based in Montreal. If you have distribution lists you can drop this to, please feel free. Hope to meet as many of you as possible next month!
My website guy has done a wicked job on the design front! Just wanted to give you a chance to check out the splash page before you get in to the main body. The loading of the photos will be speeded up sometime tomorrow. Launch is planned for Tuesday night all being well...
The members of the Lake Placid Mini Club cars are featured and that backdrop is the real thing. Fees to climb Whiteface were confirmed today as $18 for the passport which is great value and gets you into... the ski jumps, the 1932/1980 museum, the Scottish Highland Festival and Gondola ride to the top of little Whiteface, the bobsled track where you can take a bobsled ride for an extra $30 (Think the mini's fun?!) and the're throwing in a special $2 coupon for the drive up the Veterans Memorial Highway. Enough activities for a full day without anything Mini!!
Mini will be represented by staff from Keeler, including an engineer!! I can feel question time coming on. His fee? Perhaps we'll serve him beverages of his choice while he's answering!
Right now we're at 6, looking for 20, settle for everyone having a great time first year with room for growth.
It'll need some tweaking as some links don't put you exactly where you need to go but go back to the home page. You'll get there!
Your comments on the site will be greatly appreciated and wanted to improve it. More importantly, grab your families and friends, pile in your mini and head to Lake Placid for the day, two or treat yourself to a long weekend! We promise to make you all feel most welcome.
I think the website designer has done a fabulous job. If there are any of you out there who are planning to come to LP, please send me a private message or email me through the Let's Make Contact email on the site with a registration plate and number of people attending.
Thanks!
Stuart
It's been a week now and many of you have said you're planning on coming. I'd just like to repeat my 'motel manager' wife, "Weekends during September are busy!" So I guess I'm asking for you to confirm via private message if you intend to come for just the Saturday, or ask you to make your reservations and confirm to me if you plan to stay, then let me know your mini and gang you're bringing. Name tags to be made and locations for meet to be checked for size!
Count me, my wife & my Mini in. The host hotel sounds wonderful but I have so many points at a local chain hotel, I will be redeeming some of those points.
I am in the area Lake Placid every other week but always in my SUV. It will be great to run Greta in the ADKs.
Look forward to seeing you Saturday morning. If you want to email me at sjhemsley@adelphia.net with your names and a registration plate, I'm collecting a list of those people we expect.
Hopefully Keeler are coming on board officially soon, that way the message could get round really quickly to all the owners in the North East they sold to.
See you on the Oval!
Stuart

I have no clue how many of you to expect as our thread has been pretty quiet compared to others! Hits on our www.letsgooverthepark.com website have reached 200+ but I really have no idea who will drive in and surprise us. So this is a last hoorah invite to you all that can't make the RI meet. All I'll say is we've had frosty mornings and the leaves have started changing real quick, this weeks weather has been perfect during the day and hopefully it can stay the same for Saturday.
The LP Mini Club plan to get out of region soon and put our faces in front of those unable to come see us. Until then, pack an overnight bag and head for Lake Placid this Saturday, we'd love to see you, drive some and then some more.
Scottish Festival at Whiteface will be a must stop too... www.orda.org
If it gathers pace tomorrow, which it will do at some time I'll remember it as the first meet we organized! A lot will be learnt, next year will be a few weeks later to avoid back to back to back events with British Invasion, Lime Rock and this weekend being a racing date in Canada.
Unfortunately the first let down was message didn't get to the 300+ Keeler Motors customers as hoped. They decided to keep their customer list to themselves and plan on a club of their own. All I wanted was more minis
Planning on being at 2004 Minis On Top so will say hi there.
